bernie, I can't figure out how this response has anything to do with what I said. I think there is a lot of miscommunication going on in this thread.

i think he said there was a great possibility of overcards. and JJ counts as overcards, dont they?
Come on, now you are just being silly. When someone says overcards, we all know they don't mean an overpair. what're you going to do, go in check/call mode the rest of the hand unless a 'zone' card hits? Um, isn't that what you are suggesting when you say check and call the flop? You say you'd reevaluate after checking the flop. I'd rather bet the flop then reevaluate or check fold. I just don't see how checking then calling with 3rd pair after two other callers, then betting into the whole field on the turn without improving can be a good play. |

hi sobe
fold on the flop. you're down to two outs and have three opponents in the hand who may have hit this flop. i say two outs but they're not clean. 55 is the worst pair you could have here. fold. any 67 will love your set, the 1 in 12 times you spike. fold man, fold. the flush draw will equally love you set made with the 5d. you have absolutely no business in this hand. you should have folded pre-flop. you should not be in this thing at all, but now that you're in, you have two choices on the flop; to bet and hope the button raises, to check and see what happens. when you check and see everyone staying in, and you have no clean outs, your over-carded twice and there is a flush and straight draw out against you,.....who is this? is that you sobe? i don't understand. you're beat. you must fold before putting in any money on this terrible flop. |

i agree with your FTOP deal. but when discussing whether to bet or not, one should also be aware of all the likely possibilities that may result from the bet. in your discussion inside that part of the thread, the possibility of being raised never came up. just a loose end to consider

"Come on, now you are just being silly. When someone says overcards, we all know they don't mean an overpair."
we also all know that there is still a possibilty of an overpair. i dont think he's definitively putting him on just overcards here. he still has a wide range of hands. it's just as silly to 'only' assume he may have only overcards and not an overpair. "Um, isn't that what you are suggesting when you say check and call the flop?" no, im not suggesting going into check/call mode at all. i would call the flop, closing the action, then if i miss, i would either bet, or check fold. "I just don't see how checking then calling with 3rd pair after two other callers, then betting into the whole field on the turn without improving can be a good play. " the 2 other players have shown no strength. they could easily be drawing also. youre actually showing some strength by betting on a big bet round into someone who has raised preflop, and bet the flop. if you check the turn and the button bets, now you have to decide if this is how this player would play overcards. if he would only bet a pair here, then you can fold. but this doesnt put as much pressure on the other 2 as it will if you bet out here. since a new player is showing some action. this is a spot where if youre thinking of calling a bet here, you may as well bet out. and see how they react. make them react. this is the time to try and take control. if your raised on the turn, then it's a real easy laydown. if youre only called, you may very well have the best hand at this point. followed by a river bet if only called on the turn. unless a prime scare card hits b |
