hey Russ, on a tangent -- the 2nd episode of SNL this past saturday was the one Ben Stiller hosted that contains the quote in your location.
i'm pretty sure that's my favorite celebrity Jeopardy (Stiller as Tom Cruise, Jimmy Fallon as Adam Sandler), perhaps tied with the one with Minnie Driver, Jeff Goldblum and Connery. |

[ QUOTE ]
Just got home, looks like the only purpose of small stakes limit hold'em on this show is to get a discussion going with the announcers vs 2+2. [/ QUOTE ] I was wondering if people were still actually watching tonight's show before Bart/Tuch starting talking about hands, guess there's still a few out there. |

While I respect Tuckman's comments in general, I think not drawing on a paired board is much more valid in no-limit than in limit. Of course you want to protect your stack in no-limit in case you're drawing dead, but in limit, if you're given good odds you should probably draw on a paired board. You might discount your odds a bit, especially when you're drawing to a straight on a paired board with a flush draw present that isn't your own, but if the pot odds are there, and they happen to hit a bigger hand, what's the worst thing that can happen? You'll lose one or two more big bets, that's all.

Guys -
In your opinion, what would be the ideal seat to play from? I just tuned in, but I'm assuming based on the loose game I've seen so far that your PF hand selection may widen up a bit? |

$4 off the top for the rake. I realize that at 8-16 the pot gets big quickly, but isn't it $1 per $10 in pot (10%) up to $4 max?

ok guys, let me point out some of the analysis that i think is inaccurate or incorrect.
general rules of thumb are not good enough reasoning to guide calling on any draw. following rules of thumb is incorrect thinking and will lead to making mistakes in play. the correct way to think about calling with a hand like a gutshot is first look at the size of the pot, then figure out your outs (usually 4 but you have to account for suited or paired board), determine the pot odds/implied odds you need to make the call, then call or fold based on this analysis. you guys probably know this, but as announcers you were not presenting clear reasoning, but offering rules of thumb which may be helpful, but inaccurate. a player open limped in the cutoff with QJo and you said that was an okay play. it is the 2nd best option, but not the highest EV option. QJo is a clear raise in the cutoff regardless of who is in the blinds due to the chance of stealing the blinds and the equity that QJo has in that position in an unopened pot. i don't think this is debatable. not raising AA in a multiway pot is always wrong. no excuses. slowplaying HU is more reasonable, but AA should be raised there also. you need to read ed miller's small stakes holdem. the fact one of you is a poker announcer and don't know who ed miller is is shocking. at least you seem like nice guys. |
