I can appreciate the story. When I was in University my friends and I were on a spring break trip in the Dominican and our resort had a casino with one NL table.

Only played one night, and took us a couple hundred dollars before we realized that whenever the pit came by he dropped off a rigged deck and dealer was false shuffling/cutting. Seat 1 and 10 were the guys in on it.

Being young and stupid I used this info to avoid the trap which occurred only every 15-20 hands or so, and outplayed them inbetween. I ended up recouping my money and my friends money. Then they executed it when I was in BB. It was checked to me and I folded and asked to cash out. Based on the reactions of the staff, it was at that point I started realizing that I should have just left long ago. However, I managed to make it out without major incident.

I think you did the right thing.

Forgive me for taking so long on the results I only just got up (1pm uk time heh). Some great responses.

Well, the action was on me and I realised I couldnt sit there for ages and think it through, so I checked fairly quickly. My opponent ummed and arrd a bit and bet $20 or so. I figured I had odds to call for a misdeal, so I called.

Turn comes: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I check again, my opponent moves all in. I start shaking my head and say 'jeezuz i cant believe im gonna fold this' and laugh and say that button exposed flashed his cards and i caught a glimpse, then fold face up. Button mucks face down. Everyone clamours about it, but it seems fake. I want to see if anyone comes clean and says it was a prank, but nobody does.

So I play for a bit, folding preflop. Then excuse myself to the bathroom, get my mobile phone to play its ringtone, do a bad job of pretending to talk to my sister, then come back and explain I have to go bla bla.

I dont think ill be going back !

I would have folded the flop shown everyone and ask for the next card and show how much a thief the game is and perhaps attacked the dealer but then again your play wasnt bad either

My Grandma (who was one hell of a gin player when she was still alive), used to have a saying that I never have forgotten: "Trust everybody, and cut the cards"

That's a good start, but for a happy ending, I wait around until everyone leaves, follow the dealer home, beat him senseless, using a ballbat if necessary, take every dime he has on him, and tell him that I let him off easy this time.

this story doesn't make any sense, what good is stacking the deck if he's going to allow you to cut?

[/ QUOTE ]

I almost never cut them. So he knows he can offer me to cut it and I'll tap it. A bit dumb I know, but amongst 'friends' I feel a bit like im accusing them of non-gentlemanly behavior if I cut the deck on their shuffle everytime.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand this logic. I play with friends all the time and we always cut the deck just because that's what a civilized poker player does.

I think the most important question you have to ask yourself here is,
WWTSD?
What would Tony Soprano do?

So, not to be a dick or anything, but how could you play in a game with people like this and not know beforehand that they were capable of pulling something this ridiculous off? I am not necessarily advocating vengeance, but have you at least considered returning the favor somehow?

I dont say anything, and tap the deck when he passes it to me to cut. This should be interesting...

[/ QUOTE ]

Just cut the deck.

Could this guy really have set up the cards well enough to pull this off--hole cards and flop?

How did he set up the top "bunch of cards" without you noticing?

Either way you cannot continue playing in a game when you think you may be cheated.

There is too much about this story that doesn't quite make sense.I suspect we are having our collective legs pulled. I still want to hear the ending, though.

Yes, this story seems to be untrue.
