Re: Explaining Poker to a Non-Playing Girlfriend/Wife
[ QUOTE ]
I'm considering stopping online poker b/c my fiancee is unnerved by it. Two things she cited recently about online poker that really struck a chord with me: [/ QUOTE ] DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! If this is how it starts it will only get worse, much worse |

Re: Explaining Poker to a Non-Playing Girlfriend/Wife
[ QUOTE ]
Happiness is certainly what life is about. Have fun while you can. [/ QUOTE ] Dump the c*** But seriously. I was just talking about how evil women are with my friends, how all of our girlfriends could be considered crazy in one way or another, and how their only concern is themselves. Someone mentioned giving up the power in the relationship. Remember the seinfeld episode about "the upper hand"? It's all about the upper hand, baby. Don't relinquish that. It sounds like you already have. I used to think oh damn, it's not worth losing a relationship over poker, but if she cant accept who you are then WTF is that? good luck. |

Re: Explaining Poker to a Non-Playing Girlfriend/Wife
I had one run-in with my GF back when i was trying to learn poker. (before i was at all serious, i was just playing randomly). i put on 50 bucks every friday. and lost it. She once said, 'you can't put 50 dollars online every week." to which i replied, 'yes i can.' and that was it.
shes your standard overy clingy annoying yet wubable girlfriend, but luckily for me she knows theres no controlling me =P. |

Re: Explaining Poker to a Non-Playing Girlfriend/Wife
[ QUOTE ]
One other thing that I'll mention - if you quit playing FOR her and she knows that's why you quit playing - trust me on this one - it will not bode well for the future of your relationship. The fact is, while you think it will help because it will no longer be a source of discourse between the two of you, she will at the same time lose respect for you for caving in. Women do not stay with men they do not respect. [/ QUOTE ] 110% correct. |

Re: Explaining Poker to a Non-Playing Girlfriend/Wife
[ QUOTE ]
If I am compelled to play chess 10 hours a week, no problem. I like a book I'm reading a lot and want to spend free time reading, no problem. If I get a rise out of teaching adults how to read for the first time and do that 10 hours a week, no sweat. If I play cards 10 hours a week and earn a couple of hundred bucks, no deal. WTF? Either me or her needs to be re-programmed. [/ QUOTE ] Uh, that's not true. She'll complain about any hobby of yours that doesn't involve her and thus takes away time you two could be spending together. |
