The actual origin to 4:20 was simply a time a small group of guysfrom San Mateo CA in the late 70's would get together and smoke. It became a kind of cult thing and such as for police codes and 420 being the amount of chemicals in weed ... all not true.

Most states have some sort of Sunshine Laws that require government agencies to give you any document for no more than the cost of copies.

The story will air Monday night May 23rd at 11pm on CBS, Channel 2 Los Angeles. There will be game footage from a local game and an interview with one of the players that was cited.

Definitely check it out!

There should also be comments from LAPD on their policies regarding enforcing the municipal codes barring gambling in your own home.

If SOCAL is such a pain, come up to the Bay Area. Here is the important part of the ordanince for Albany, CA (just north of Berkeley):

It shall not, however, be unlawful to play any game of cards not mentioned in Section 330 of the Penal Code at a bona fide place of residence in the City for money, checks, chips or credit. A bona fide place of residence shall be construed to include a room used and occupied, not transiently but solely as a residence, in a dwelling house, apartment house, hotel or boarding house.

(Ord. #94-011, §1)

You should look for similar home game exceptions in your ordinances. Or have them added if they are not found in your ordinaces.
