[ QUOTE ]

a·the·ist
n.

One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods.

antitheist

\An`ti*the"ist\, n. A disbeliever in the existence of God.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think a more rounded definition is this:

One who lives without a belief in supernatural entities or powers.

Note I made no comment regarding the actual existence or non-existence of such an entity or power. To do so would be making a non-provable statement (i.e. there is no God). Besides, whether I believe or disbelieve something exists is irrelevant to the factuality of its existence or non-existence.

In other words, what you believe or what I believe doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what is.

So how do we determine "what is?" We make unbiased observations of the world around us.

How to we know our observations are unbiased? We see if we can repeatedly observe the same thing and we ask others if they see the same thing also.

Everything that "exists" is a part of space/time.

"God" (aka, "The Creator") is not a part of space/time.

Therefore, God cannot "exist".

Thank you.

Next question?

Yes I agree. I didn't realize Godel was into that kind of thing. My thanks as well to Purnell for the link in a previous post.

Why cant you just accept the fact that there is no god and move on with your life?

[ QUOTE ]
this "challenge" if you will, is open to any and all atheists as well as ambitious agnostics. If you are indeed certain, that God does not exist, than you should have little or no problem articulating your argument for your position. So, here's my proposition, give me your best argument for the non-existence of God, and I will demonstrate it to be incorrect* (provided, you are willing to forsake your ego.)

*Note: it is not part of my duty to "prove" to you that God does, in fact, exist- but rather to show that you cannot conclusively say he does not.

[/ QUOTE ]

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms.
