Bluffing, in a sense, definitely comes up in chess from time to time. As someone said, you can make a bad position more complicated with a dubious move. If it doesn't work, what does it matter? You were going to lose anyway. If you successfully scare your opponent into thinking you have something, you might improve to a draw or win.
I think rivering happens in chess too. Last night I swindled someone into a checkmate after a 3 hour game when we both had less than a minute on our clocks - I think that's about the equivalent of hitting a two-outer. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] |

I never understood how people would come up with these numbers like "He calculates 4 positions a second" and the like.
