I have to agree and know that this is irrationial on my part. I saw it as a big error but did not understand the correction. I think that I have been beat in .50 games because no one folds and they hit when I do not. It does make sense to take the free card or even bet the hand even. I was/am folding this hand because I do not want to have to show it if it doesn't hit, "hey everybody, I was just drawing". Probably better to showdown a looser that is played properly.

I think you don't understand something very simple here. IF IT'S CHECKED TO YOU, YOU CAN CHECK AS WELL. The options are not just betting or folding. If it doesn't hit, it doesn't hit, but there's no reason to throw away a hand for NOTHING AT ALL. Even if it doesn't hit, you may have the best hand. And if it isn't the best hand, you won't have put any more money in the pot. Checking AK unimproved is not horrible if you have extremely passive opponents who won't bet, but will always call with any piece of the board.
