Re: Do you rat out your 16 year old nephew if you think he\'s toking?
[ QUOTE ]
I am a hypocrite! I as of recently was a stoner for 10+ years. 16 is to young. Stop him now. If he does poorly in his studies now this only contributes. School is more important. If only I could turn back the clock. Face it stoners, Pot makes you lazy. [/ QUOTE ] I call BS. If the kid is depressed or something, an astute parent should/would pick up on the other signs of this and get the kid therapy or prozac or something. If the kid is bored with school/being a teenager, quiting pot isn't going to make his life more interesting. Ditto if he's just plain ole lazy, quiting pot isn't going to turn him into some super motivated type A person. All we really know here is that the kid got stoned once or a couple of times and his stupid friends took pictures and put them on the internet. 16 ain't all that young. He'll probably be done with HS in about a year and will be old enough to vote and die in Iraq and everything. Forbidding a kid from smoking or drinking will either result in super secret behavior or he'll just flip out in college when the 'rents won't be able to watch his every move. For a lot of people, alcohol and pot are recreational drugs and are fine when taken in moderation. I'm guessing the OP wouldn't have freaked out if the pictures had cans of bud instead of bongs in the background. p.s. For the record I'm not a stoner. I got high around once a week in HS and get high about once a year as a 35 year old. |

[ QUOTE ]
Based on all the anti-marijuana propaganda I have read for the last 30 years, I can state unequivicolly that... [/ QUOTE ] I stopped reading here - that is just a silly statement. I hope it turned into a sarcastic witicism. *Edit* Oh good - it did! |

At the very least, tell him to get the references off of MySpace.

Re: Do you rat out your 16 year old nephew if you think he\'s toking?
Wow.
[ QUOTE ] bad advice. he needs to tell his sister. pot is not just "bad for" a 16 year old boy or girl...it is exteremely risky and could very well end up being deadly. i don't know how old you are, but mary jane is a LOT different than it was when i was 16 (17 years ago). [/ QUOTE ] huh? It has more THC. The high is better. You're right, it's alot different and much better. But, don't forget that today's weed will make you rape girls and listen to jazz music. [ QUOTE ] i found out where he was Saturday morning, and flagged down a policeman i know that i saw on my way to detain him myself, then watched them handcuff him and take him into custody. i don't care if he hates me right now because i know he loves me. [/ QUOTE ] I really doubt that. Im sure he hates your guts, as every single self-righteous person who smokes weed would hate your guts for this. He's indeed the victim of a victimless crime. Granted, he may not be an adult, but let him chose his own decisions. He's your nephew and you turn him into the police for failing to go back to a treatment center? Im sorry, but you sound like a complete tool. |

[ QUOTE ]
what idiots they are. my personal opinion is that smoking pot is a terrible thing for a 16 year old to be doing (he already does badly in school). [/ QUOTE ] Well, he's probably stupid then and marijuana has nothing to do with that. Why is it your business anyway? |

Re: Do you rat out your 16 year old nephew if you think he\'s toking?
All these people saying "I smoked and I think it was good for me" make me laugh. Most ridiculous rationalization ever?

Maybe you could breach the subject with him by mentioning you saw and liked his website. If he has the maturity to come forward to talk to you about it, then you can still choose to keep the mother out of it. If not, you still have the option to bring it up to her later.
