He hit the ball well, no doubt, and the previous swing, where he fouled a very tough pitch off, was excellent. That was a mighty big hit with two out. Anderson might not have been able to catch it even if he got a good jump; but he might have.
Anyway, I'm a Cano fan. If he can walk 50 times (instead of 16 or 18 or whatever he had this year), and improve his fielding a bit, he's going to be a very good player. I can see him hitting 25-30 home runs. |

i loved that stat where they showed how rivera only blew 2 saves pre-2004, and how he blew 3 last year. HIS [censored] KID DIED! [/ QUOTE ] i can see rivera's more pissed off about that run than getting the save |

How did the Angels not have the defense set up so that there couldn't be a fly ball over the head of Anderson in the first? There's 2 outs, you don't need to play in. That ball should've been caught.

one, cano does not have that much power the opposite way. he does not hit balls like that often to left field.
two, i think people are underestimating how hard to catch the ball was. anderson kind of botched it, but he was running backwards on a slicing hard hit ball. |

[/ QUOTE ] The point is that he shouldn't have been so far in that he needed to run that far back. You simply don't allow a ball over your head in that situation. |

why not? [/ QUOTE ] You don't have to throw anyone out at home who is tagging up from 3rd if you catch the ball - that guy is now going to score automatically. If it falls in front, you are coming in and can throw out the guy coming in from 2nd. If it goes over your head though, you definitely lose all 3 runs. Play back and the most you give up is two and have a shot at the plate to keep it at 1. It's the first inning, you can't afford to have what happened, happen. |

fair enough points, but
im not sure because its against a hitter who doesnt hit line drives the opposite way often at all, and from an EV standpoint i think by playing shorter in the field you prevent more singles than you will allow over the head doubles. also, i'm going to be a nit and point out the count was full with 2 outs and the runner on 2nd was sheffield, so hes scoring on any single. actually its not that nitty a point in this specific situation. |

Can we all stop using the EV poker reference when talking sports?

Can we all stop using the EV poker reference when talking sports? [/ QUOTE ] EV isn't a poker reference. "Fold preflop", "I would have moved all-in " and "I flopped the nuts on her face!" are poker references. |
