Re: Books that made you laugh out loud.
[ QUOTE ]
Not many books actualy make me laugh out loud and embarass myself in public kinda thing. they might be humorous with witty stuff etc, but no snorting my drinks out. One I did with though is The Van by Roddy Doyle. Any other nominations I can go spend my Borders gift card on..? [/ QUOTE ] I just read "Life of Pi" it's very good. Or, Read Tom Robbins, he's good too |

Re: Books that made you laugh out loud.
1 - Cryptonomicon by Neil Stephenson
I couldn't get through Quicksilver (by Neil Stephenson also) but early on there isa funny line in there. The one guys mentions a book Cryptonomicon and the other says "that long winded Piece of [censored]". It is funny since Qsilver is set in 1600s and Crypto is 1000 pages so the reference made me laugh and was quite clever. 2 - Life of Pi - Good book worth the read 3 - Portkey's has some sick stuff in there, but gotta love the way he handles his woman! 4 - Conf of dunces - the story behind the books is great as well. I hated that fat bastard but he had humor value! |

Re: Books that made you laugh out loud.
I apparently have very different tastes from the 2+2 majority.
While I love Don Quixote(My favorite book) and I like Confederacy of Dunces, I don't find Catch-22, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or anything by Vonnegut humorous or enjoyable. |

I second Texasville It is hilarious. Anything by the late Lewis Grizzard is also very funny. I'd recommend If I Ever Get Back to Georgia, I'm Gonna Nail My Feet to the Ground for starters. He is a little Southern for some tastes.

Re: Books that made you laugh out loud.
One of the funniest books I've ever read is "Uncle Shelby's ABZ Book" by Shel Silverstein. Yes, the same Shel Silverstein that wrote all them warm, fuzzy children's books. The ABZ book is funny. Pee-in-your-pants funny.

Ball Four by Jim Bouton Catch-22 Maximum Bob by Elmore Leonard [/ QUOTE ] What he said. I also laughed out loud reading some of Woody Allen's old books like Getting Even and Without Feathers and many of Dave Barry's books such as his novel Big Trouble. One I haven't seen mentioned that is hilarious is Winterdance, The Fine Art of Running the Iditarod by Gary Paulsen. There ought to be a warning on that book's cover to avoid reading it in a public place. |
