Unlike just about any other city, better dress doesn't equate to more money here. [/ QUOTE ] Much of NYC operates much the same way. |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
I've always used the room safe. You need not be afraid of the maid scanning out all the combos. The safes I've used only allow you three trials to get the right combo. If you don't get it then, they lock up for at least five minutes (maybe 15 ? 30 ? don't remember).

Ever since I got a wallet when I was 13, I've had it in my front pocket.

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
When I lived in San Diego I always used the player's bank at my favorite cardroom. If I needed to take the money with me, I would keep less than $100 in my pocket, and hide the rest inside my socks/shoes, or sometimes hidden inside my pants. I sometimes do the same in vegas. when I AM walking around with money in my pocket, I always keep a hand on it, particularly if I have loose pockets (i.e. they are easier targets for pickpockets). As long as you're in a casino under the cameras, getting MUGGED is not much of a concern, but pickpockets may still be operating, so beware. I keep a little in my pocket when I have more hidden on me so that if i DID get mugged, I can just give them the small change and thus avoid having a nasty physical confrontation, because they get theirs quickly, and run, while my real roll stays hidden.
The player's bank really is the best thing if you plan to play mostly at one place. Some casinos don't like to do it for poker players tho, just craps, blackjack etc (this is how it was at the mirage at one time, not sure what it is now but probably the same). They want the poker players to rent the safe deposit boxes I guess. Anyway, at the mirage I just pretended to be a craps player and keep my couple grand in their safekeeping at the cashier near the poker room. Dynasty's suggestion about keeping a large denomination chip hidden on you is a good idea too. Just remember you can't cash it at another casino. Getting mugged is certainly a possibility in vegas, so BE CAREFUL with your $$. al |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
Your question reminds me of my first trip to Vegas. I was concerned about carrying a few thou so I put a wad of 100’s in my sock. I was playing BJ and made a big bet on a hand with a couple of doubles and splits. The rest of the table had a good laugh when I asked for time to take off my shoes.
Cameras are everywhere on casino property. There is probably no safer place in Vegas than at a casino. If you are nervous about going from the cage to your car with a lot of cash, you can ask for a security escort and any decent casino will gladly give it to you. If you ask, the cage will cut you a check. I would not color up because a big chip is easy to loose. The maids are safe crackers? LOL! Room safes are just fine. Like others have said, be very careful about how much cash and in what denominations you take to strip clubs. |

Re: Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?
Travellers checks suck. I made that mistake on my trip out to Arizona. I got 2k in checks, went to the Indian Casino, and they wanted $3 per check. Yeah right, like I am going to spend $60 to cash my checks. So I waited to get to the bank to cash them for free. If I cash them in the casino and break even, they are going to pay me in cash anyway.

I felt weird the first few times I used one of these at the cage or table. Then people started asking where I got it. I feel pretty safe with up to about 2k on me with one of these, and that limit is just a matter of personal preference. I do use traveler's checks, or at least I carry them, in addition to my cash bankroll. I get them without a fee as an American Express cardholder. The main drawback is that if you bust out of your cash bankroll, you'll have to go to the main cage to get traveler's checks cashed. Don't lose your cash, and you won't have this problem. My room had a safe. Use the room safe overnight. During the day, you may want to keep part of your bankroll in the safe if you have brought a lot with you. If you plan on playing at only one or two places, make a deposit with the casino(s). |
