Re: Popping the question
[ QUOTE ]
That's a really good post PG. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for saying so, I am glad you enjoyed it. Actually, now that I am awake and sober I reread what I wrote last night and I am shocked how coherently and grammatically correct I was able to convey my thoughts. It's no wonder Hemingway would get all [censored] up before he sat down to write. PG |

Rings aside, I'd be sure and ask her parents beforehand. +EV. [/ QUOTE ] Talk to her pops if he's old school. (And he probably is.) |

Re: Popping the question
I took my wife out to Vegas, and drove out to Red Rock Canyon and popped the question there.

Re: Popping the question
[ QUOTE ]
all i know is, if i ever ask this question, it's going to be more of a "yo, you wanna do this thing?" kind of scenario. [/ QUOTE ] Funny, that's exactly how it happened with my parents. This seems like a much better approach tha shocking someone with an outrageously expensive gift, and put both of you in a really awkward situation when she is unsure. |

Re: Popping the question
1) As someone said before, spend 30 seconds and get the father's permission. Hugely +EV
2) Per the ring, you'll have friends that get married before you. After the girl shows of her ring to your girlfriend, ask your girlfriend what she thought of the ring. She'll get the hint and say something like, "Oh, it was really pretty, but I prefer a "blank"." 3) You should know your girl on this one- I'm of the opinion that it doesn't really matter- if she'll only say yes if you fly in on a hot air balloon and drop down the ring on a parachute, it's doomed. Can't go wrong with proposing in a nice restaurant or at the site of your first date, or on a hike, or whatever the two of you like doing together. |

Re: Popping the question
Yeah, definitely try to find out what kind of ring she wants. Luckily, my wife had pointed a particular style when we were in a mall once. It wasn't the traditional single stone style, so there is no way in hell I would have known what she wanted unless I saw that. So when I went to the jeweler, I knew exactly what to get. Hopefully she won't like platinum like mine did...

Re: Popping the question
My wife asked me before I could ask her.
Caught me totally off guard, because I had been busy finding some cool/unique way to do it and she just skips all the BS and asks me. Oh well, our whole relationship has been backwards. We bought a house together before we got married. |
