Re: Theo Epstein: Is He Staying with the Red Sox?
Dan Shaughnessy needs to die and I don't know why it hasn't happened yet.

There are reports that this Boston Sunday Globe article upset Theo Epstein. [/ QUOTE ] I imagine it would. If I were Theo it would make me incensed. |

For my information, wasn't Theo a Billy Beane guy? [/ QUOTE ] No. He's a Kevin Towers guy, who also was given his first shot by Lucchino. |

No. He's a Kevin Towers guy, who also was given his first shot by Lucchino. [/ QUOTE ] I can see being grateful for being given a shot. But if he wasn't homegrown, I don't see how Luccino is taking credit for his success. I mean, Luccino wouldn't have given Theo a shot if Theo didn't bring something to the table. |

Re: Theo Epstein: Is He Staying with the Red Sox?
[ QUOTE ]
Sabean is great if you want overpaid mediocre veterans and intentionally losing draft picks. [/ QUOTE ] Sabean's situation is unusual. He has an aging superstar who takes up about a 1/5 of the payroll. He knew the time to win a championship was now and he went for it. Not his fault Bonds was out for the season. Look at what they did with him in the line-up down the stretch, along with (Alou, Winn and Benitez) and you could see they would have won the division. He loses the draft picks because he feels the signing bonus would be better spent on ML ready talent. Put him in Boston with $180 million payroll and he would do wonderful. |

[/ QUOTE ] In case I wasn't clear, Lucchino gave Towers his first shot, and was perhaps instrumental in Epstein's original upward mobility within the Padres' organization. So he was somewhat homegrown, in that pretty much always under the tutelage of Lucchino. But really, I don't care who gets credit for what, and sorting through the spin here is more trouble than it's ever going to be worth. |

The article is just a hack job, it has no shame. |

Re: Theo Epstein: Is He Staying with the Red Sox?
[ QUOTE ]
will not sign some clown who thinks like it was 20 years ago [/ QUOTE ] 20 years ago is making a comeback. Fundamental baseball, speed, and defense are on the rise, steriods are on the decline and purely offensively minded baseball's reign is likely over. That said the new statistical revolution in baseball and sabermetrics cannot be ignored just as funtamentals, attitude and chemistry cannot be ignored. And especially pitching (just like 5, 10, 20 ,30, 50 and 100 years ago) cannot be ignored! |
