All I know is that I really wanted to throw something at the screen all night.

How can you be mad at the KJ guy... who by the way ISNT A PROFESSIONAL for being hypocritical when phil points out the 5% edge on 99-JTs, and then whine to his (psychologist..classic) wife abuot the same edge later?

I mean, Im still pondering how he got his bracelets... I know I came on the poker scene after he got most of them (2002) but I havent yet seen him play world class poker.

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought he played near world class in tonight's episode. I simply love the guy. I think he is underrated as a player and that his tantrums are hilarious, intentional, and good for the game of poker. Poker is better off not filled with touchy feely pussies. It's more interesting to me that successful players have inflated ego's, and that these egos are often of paramount importance to winning.

I simply put off Phil's antics to being part of his strategy and persona as a professional poker player.

ps - the KJ guy was a total douchebag the entire episode and a total donkey to boot.

are you serious?

Man, what happened to the sense of humor on this board? I thought the ultra-douchey picture on the "flames of hell" background would tip off that it was meant jokingly...

the KJ guy was a major prick. gotta love how steamed he was when 99 went all-in and he called with JTs (what?!), flopped the straight, lost to full house, and was obviously enraged over his supposed bad beat. as phil pointed out, 99 had the best of it when the money was in.

then the guy hits a 3-outer on the river to beat phil when he was a monster favorite, phil goes off, and the guy calls him a crybaby. wow. seems hypocritical to me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Speaking of hypocritical, I love how Phil pointed out to the guy that it wasn't a bad beat because 99 was a favorite over JT, but then whined about it when his AQ got busted by 77. But yeah, that guy calling Phil a crybaby like 5 minutes after his own little tantrum was classic.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but to add a bit of context, it appeared to me that the guy called from a T600 BB for ~5k more with that JT. Pretty horrendous call ot looked like, and amplified by his truly donkified play vs PH. Phil DID blow hos hand vs Magriel tho. I know X-22 has a LAG rep, but from that position, and with Phil's stack, you'd have to think PM factored that PH may be ready to go to war. I can;t imagine Phil thought he could be ahead any half-decent % of the time.

I loved the one where he called the turn and river with JT (pair of tens) with two aces on the board and the other guy had jacks.

"You bet the turn and the river?!"
"You bet the turn and the river!!"

He called with a worse hand on the turn and the river. If he thought the other guy could only bet with an ace in his hand....well...oh, I like Phil just because I'd like to be at a table of his someday.

[/ QUOTE ]

He said that because he was amazed the guy would fire a second shot there, which WAS pretty ballsy. And it was QQ vs JT, btw.

Also, I'm guessing by the tone of your post you think you could outplay Phil should you sit with him? Don't kid yerself. He doesn't have 9 bracelets and more cashes than anyone simply because he plays so many events.

AK vs KJ has a slightly higher edge than 5%

[/ QUOTE ]

You misread. 5% was 99 vs JTs.

That guy Phil reraised had called another allin with frigging JTs, and didn't understand why it wasn't a bad beat. If Phil's truly a player who thinks he can outplay anyone, why not wait for a flop instead of letting this obvious moron push you into at best a 75-25 all in for most of your chips?

The AK fold to me seemed more like weak play that turned out right. And even if it was a read, that old man was super confident and chatty with Phil during the decision. Big deal.

Oh, and checking in the dark over and over is stupid.

[/ QUOTE ]

That was a very good read by Phil on AK vs AA, albiet a bit late. The minraise preflop followed by the checked ace flop and shrug bet on turn SCREAMED huge. Social security rule was in effect too, and that guy HAD to be 96.

I think you have to put your chips in every time you think you're a 3-1 or 4-1 favorite. If you wait for better odds then that in hold'em you'll be waiting a long time. Someone almost always has outs even after you hit a big flop. All you can do is be happy when you get your money in with the best hand and then go to the bathroom and vomit when the 3 outer hits the river.

Absolutely fantastic episode. Hellmuth was just hitting on all cylinders (great play, and fantastic showmanship).

And whether you think it's poor taste or not, Phil was absolutely correct about the play of the KJ fella. Not only did he way overplay his hand there, but he also called it a 'bad beat' when he lost a coinflip calling an all-in w/ JTs. The dude was an absolute moron well deserving of any beratings he recieved. When Phil said "this guy can't even spell poker" it was hilarious because the guy WAS absolutely clueless.

Phil was also totally correct in his statement about these being some of the worst players in the world. in the first 4 main event episodes the play by the unknowns has been consistently and staggeringly AWFUL.

I think that's his point, Dali. He's saying that it's not the same edge as 99 vs JTs.
