Ok, well, I guess I just assumed he wanted songs with great starts, not necessarily a non-repeated intro. Shame that takes some good RATM songs out of the running too.

I'd say Hells Bells qualifies as well. Although you get into that riff/intro argument again.

The bells alone qualify, yes. I was going to say this earlier, too.

I noticed that ACDC's formula is to have a bad-a** intro, and an over-the-top finale, with filler in the middle. Not a bad formula, really. People love stuff that starts great and ends great. The middle, in all things, is usually filler.

GNR had a lot of good intros, actually, Mr Brownstone is another good one.

Don't forget "It's so Easy"...phenomenal opening.

Precisely. This also takes out "Kashmir" and "Whole Lotta Love" by Zeppelin. Phenomenal "beginnings", but not really "intros". "WLL" is probably one of the best rock 'beginnings' ever.

Everyone who has thusfar mentioned Money for Nothing is actually talking about the part before the guitar... I'm fairly certain of this. The usual radio-edited version starts slightly before the guitar comes in but everyone is talking about the whole "I want my...." "I want my.... MTV..." sung by sting and accompanied by drums and some kind of synth or whatever.

[/ QUOTE ]

Duh. I stand corrected. That is a really cool intro.

Patience totally counts. The whistling has nothing to do with the song.

This is a great choice, and one of my favorite songs. It's a very fun/easy song to play on acoustic. But I dumb-down the picking to play it, by just playing the chords.

One of about 6 million songs that has the D/Dsus2/Dsus4 combination...used countless times, but still very effective.
