[ QUOTE ]
When someone does not believe in a god and presents rational justification for his beliefs, then this "means something". One cannot just dismiss the "atheist" set of beliefs as "just another "set of beliefs, equal in validity prima faciae to its opposite set. [/ QUOTE ] One of the most basic principles in this country is that any set of beliefs about the existence and nature of supernatural beings is equal in validity to any other, as a matter of law. Acknowledging that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe in God and feel that this God directs or inspires, or somethings, their affairs and the affairs of their nation does not amount to an establishment of religion. The very notion is silly. It would be a stronger argument to claim that atheist are trying to establish their religion through the courts. |

[/ QUOTE ] "Supernatural beings"? Does this include the aliens who were captured (and operated on!) in Nevada? Seriously, I have to issue a warning for you too : You are smack in the middle of moral relativism, there, buddy. Think Nevada atomic testing sites. Think getting the hell outta there. [ QUOTE ] Acknowledging that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe in God and feel that this God directs or inspires, or somethings, their affairs and the affairs of their nation does not amount to an establishment of religion. [/ QUOTE ]It's already amusing enough to hear Righties with their self-professed love for liberty and their self-professed hate for any kind of "oppression by the majority", make a summersault and adopt a majority-rules-attitude when it comes to protecting America's Christian "character". It's downright hilarious when the argument comes from Libertarians! [ QUOTE ] It would be a stronger argument to claim that atheists are trying to establish their religion through the courts. [/ QUOTE ] Are they? The bastards. How do they do that? And what is "their religion"? I ask them but they never tell me! |

Seriously, I have to issue a warning for you too : You are smack in the middle of moral relativism, there, buddy. Think Nevada atomic testing sites. Think getting the hell outta there. [/ QUOTE ] Your metaphors regarding moral relativism are deeply confused and ineffective. Furthermore, aliens, if they exist, would not be supernatural beings. In any case, moral relativism has nothing to do with it. It's written into the constitution that the government will not do any prying into the validity of your religious beliefs. Also, I'm not a libertarian, so don't enjoy the moment too much. |
