i wonder what factors determine the amount of time one can hold his or her breath. maybe the altitude you live in? how "in shape" you are? i don't know.

1:54 for a fellow smoker. I think I can get 2:30+ if I hyperventilate beforehand.

I have absolutely no want to hold my breath for a long time.

About 1:30 I stopped. Maybe I could go longer. I don't know, it wasn't really fun enough to try again.

I'm not even going to try. My blood pressure is low enough as is.

First try I stopped once I got past 2 minutes. I'm pretty sure I could hit 2:30, but there's no way I'll hit 3:00.

There are plenty of people out there who can go well over 4 minutes.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can you? I think I could, but then I'd get nosebleeds and my lungs would feel like their ripping, my heart would pound furiously, and then I'd pass out before.

Anyways, 2:30 for me before my abs felt like caving in.

I used to do this a lot. My personal record is 4:31, as a freshman in highschool. That was the last time I tried because I figured it wasn't healthy and was probably making me stupid.

Over 3:00. I used to practice this when I was a kid, and did a bunch of reading about pearl divers and stuff like that. There are a couple of tricks to it. First hyperventilate to saturate your system with oxygen. Then take as big a breath as your can and then a bunch of small gulps before you start the clock to get as much air in as you can.
