I would have no problem with an extra $1/hand rake in a tips prohibited room.

[/ QUOTE ]

Assuming that the extra $1 went directly to the dealers, you would probably end up with crappier dealers. They'd focus purely on speed and not be concerned about being a good dealer in any other respect.

Even that is optimistic, though. The house would probably keep most of the extra buck and pay the dealers as little as they could (in otherwords, the same situation as now without the incentive of tips) without having total drooling morons, and you would end up with even shittier dealers.

Yes, but they have other incentives (raises, bonuses, etc). Untipped low-wage hourly employees are generally losers.

Yeah, I hear ya. That $10 rake sure would be nice.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, about 6-8 years ago in El Paso (at an Injun
casino on the edge of town), tipping was PROHIBITED.
They culled an extra $1 rake out of pots that got big
enough.

Worked for me.

As a dealer I appreciate your toke. I thank you for it as well. It is the reason I am trying to deal a fast clean legit game.

You people that don't tip, or tip "a dollar in an entire night". Do you feel comfortable telling people this in person. I know over the net its not a problem, but you know we live in a society that has certain guidelines for tipping. Many people you encouter are expecting tips from you. ESPECAILLY in VEGAS! I mean hello!?! If you are coming to Vegas and thinking you are cool because you are not tipping someone, then you are a true jackass.
Vegas is the city of greased palms and kickbacks. If you haven't figured this out please keep your butt home in Tightwad, WY.

[/ QUOTE ]

I used to deal in a casino in Tightwad and I found the players to be quite generous. It is really unfortunate that the city has such a poor reputation simply because of a name that was given to it a hundred years ago. It couldn't be further from the truth. It's kinda like the Iceland/Greenland thing. Please help end this unfortunate stereotype.

In the US, we have many jobs that are essentially paid a token wage, but are really paid by tips. As a waiter, I made well below minimum wage. My REAL pay came from tips. Dealers are paid under the same scheme. I'd much rather pay tips to dealers than have the rake increase to cover dealer salaries. Under that scheme, there would be no motivation to deal quickly and competently. Foxwoods is about as close to that arrangement as they come, and the dealers suck there.

At Canterbury, the dealers are(mostly) quite proficient and very nice (this is Minnesota, after all). It is rare that a player does not tip, aside from stealing the blinds, and this old guy named Harold who lives at the 0/8 table. I'd leave his name out, but everyone at CP knows who I'm talking about anyway.

I play 3/6 at a small casino so I've gotten the opportunity to know the styles and efficiency of each dealer. I can say they are very good and have exceptional customer skills. The cardroom manager cares about the opperation and it shows. As a result the dealers tend to be tipped much higher than other places I've played $2-$4 bucks on decent pots. I personally tip $1 a pot ($2 or $3 on big ones).
Good dealers make the whole experience much more enjoyable and dealing cards is not the most lucrative career one could have so I look at the tokes as an investment to make sure the good dealers make a living and will be there when I come back.

I'm a regular in an underground cardroom, which I think makes a big difference, but I tip anywhere from 5% to 10% of my winnings (not the total pot, my winnings). Several other regulars do the same.
