Wow. Called all in with a gutshot. Thats gotta suck. Anyone know if he had pot odds for it? Kinda sucked that more or less guy catches a gutshot and wins a million bucks. feel bad for maxfield, he couldnt have played it much better. got the right call, just got hosed by the luckbox that is Tuan Le.

I have a feeling this post was a joke, but I'll bite ...

He pushed all-in with a gutshot and 2 overcards. Big difference.

I agree ... hope that was a lame attempt at humor. But, he didn't push in with a gutshot ... they were both all-in pre-flop with Tuan clearly having the best of it and having that hold up.

Unless Card Player's information is messed up, this is incorrect. He pushed with two overs and a gutshot on the flop and got called by top two.

I certainly could be wrong, but here is how Card Player describes it:

"Paul Maxfield pushes all in, and Tuan Le quickly calls, showing K-J suited. Maxfield turns over K-5 offsuit, and he's dominated. Unless Maxfield catches some help, Tuan Le will win this tournament. The flop comes J-10-3, and Tuan Le takes a commanding lead. Maxfield needs to catch something runner-runner (like 5-5) to stay alive. The turn card is a queen, and that means Maxfield is hoping for a chopped pot with a nine or an ace. Anything else will eliminate him from the tournament. The river card is a 7, and Paul Maxfield is eliminated in second place, earning $1,698,390."

Wait, we are talking different hands ... this is the final hand ... I see the hand earlier that the Poster was discussing. Thought he was talking about the final hand.

Tuan had the best of it going in and had the best coming out. He made a substantial raise and was called by an inferior hand. The fact that Maxfield made two pair is irrelevant. Gap concept still applies HU at least to some extent. Tuan was the aggressor and Maxfield called with a lesser hand. He has two overs and a draw.

How does that make him a "luckbox"?

Is your comment somehow related to a "lockbox"? If so please refrain from the Al Gore invented the luckbox jokes.

This guy is good and all these threads remind of the Gus Hansen controversy. Let it go. Not everybody plays by the book.

Whoa.. after reading about a few hands from Pokerwire, it sounds like he's a newb.

Check these:

Tuan Le doubles up
Le raised to 2 million and Maxfield called. The flop came 563 and Maxfield check-called an all in raise from Le. Le showed a gutshot straight draw and Maxfield showed 65 for two pair. Le caught a seven for a straight on the river.

Paul Maxfield doubles up
The flop came QQK with two clubs. Le check-raised to 3 million and Maxfield reraised all in. Le called with 85 clubs for a flush draw. Maxfield showed K3 for two pair. Another king came on the river giving Maxfield a boat.

Paul Maxfield hits Big Slick
Maxfield calls from the small blind and Le checks. The flop came 9Q4 and both players checked. The turn cam another queens and both checked again. The river cam an ace and Le check-called a 2 million dollar bet from Maxxfield. Maxfield showed AK and Le mucked.

Uhhh.......?????????

All of those could be reasonable plays. We don't know the context or stack depth, which are required to assess the plays.

Cardplayer has more info on stacks and such. I was commenting on the first hand you noted which I think is what the poster I responded to was talking about as well.

Tuan raises 2 million and Maxfield called with 56o. Uhh. Board comes with all unders and gives Tuan a gutshot. He shoots, he scores, he wins. Suckout maybe. He did have outs and the best hand going in.

The second hand he is again the aggressor making a semibluff. He figures at worst Maxfield has trips when he calls the all-in. He gambles and loses.

Third hand I have to guess he had enough equity to call the river and lost. We don't know what he held.

He is a gamblin' poker player and is obviously successful. As I said before when I mentioned Gus H, I think he is playing a style that many think of as reckless and maybe maybe even foolish, but it seems to work for him.

I have not won a single WPT title much less two. I highly doubt you have as well. Calling him a newb may make you feel better about your own style, but it certainly doesn't make you a better player. He also passed Daniel N as the all time WPT money winner with this achievement.

My guess is that you would be hard pressed if you found this guy at your table with a stack larger than your own.

Give credit where it is due.

Hyper agro busts out early or accumulates. Couple agro with a little more finesse and you have a absolutely fearsome player not that he isn't scary now.
