So Sfer was there then?
If that was Wendell, then he's really let himself go. |

When I'm there part of the joy in straddling will be gone. You haven't gotten the full experience until you've straddled bdk3clash's BB, he says, "Stradiesel!" and turbomucks when it's folded to him. This actually hasn't happened--except for the Stradiesel bit--but someday it will.

I am interested in your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. [/ QUOTE ] Wow, I was thinking the exact same thing. Congratulations on the most appropriate Homerism I've yet to see on this board. BTW, I know this quote is used twice, once in the bear patrol episode and ... well, that's my question. When else? I cannot remember. |

I’d like to share a corollary to JSD’s live straddle strategy. I developed this after playing for a while at the low-limit tables at Commerce where just about all the players are well aware of the power of the straddle. I call it the Zombie (or undead) straddle.
The crux of the issue is “How do I get my straddle in without the rest of the table knowing it?” This is very easy if you are wearing mirrored sunglasses, but with a little practice you can do it without any eye protection whatsoever. The trick is to PRETEND to look at your hole cards without actually doing so. I usually take a quick “peek” at my cards, but don’t actually lift them up far enough to see them. Note that you can’t just square the cards and look at only the bottom one as this will reduce the strength of your Zombie Straddle by roughly 50% (it depends on the rank of the card you see and whether or not it is suited). Then when you post your Zombie Straddle from UTG, the table will be unable to accurately read you. Of course, if it gets three bet, you must cap, and all of JSD’s beer rules should be followed. Side Note: An interesting parallel exists between the Zombie Straddle and the Steal Raise. While the Steal Raise is somewhat disguised when attempted from the cutoff position, the Zombie Straddle is similarly disguised in UTG+1. In my experience, most players rarely suspect the straddle in positions other than UTG, so when you do so they will be very hard pressed to put you on a (correct) hand. |

4) I wish I could straddle online. [/ QUOTE ] Hold your hand over the screen and line your mouse up with the raise button. Unfortunately, it has no psychological effect. Although you could type in "I JUST RAISED WITHOUT LOOKING!!!! LOL!!!" Last night I was dealt K2o UTG and I meant to click fold but accidentally clicked raise instead. Luckily, it was folded all around to me and I got some free blind money for the next orbit. I've never given it a thought and am not sure that it would have occurred to me to type a player based on race (I guess I missed those threads you are referring to) but thinking about it now, I would've thought the asian stereotype would be a tight, meticulous, odds oriented player [/ QUOTE ] You must play on the internet, and don't get out to live games very often..... |
