in limit at least, folding a hand can never be a "great play."
I hope most of you would realize this as well as the faultiness of the kind of thinking. I don't even have to quote SSH.

I hope most of you realize the faultiness of the logic in this post.

can you explain what you mean? my intention was to imply that laying down hands is of course part of but by no means key to a good LHE game. placing too much emphasis on "finding folds" is clearly wrong. for this reason I don't like the term "good fold", just gives the wrong impression.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're right that finding big laydowns is not a big part of winning at limit hold'em. However, if you're sure you're beat with a strong hand and you find the fold, it can be a "great fold."

hate to keep this thread alive but I once folded an Ace high flush on an unpaired board cause the other guy had a str8 flush. NOt a terribly difficult read (with some thought) but I was proud of myself for that one)

My opponent bet and I folded.

We went quite a few bets preflop though. My opponent had pocket aces as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.

I had that HAPPEN to me early in my .25/.50 NLHE on party poker. Board was 4h 7h 10s 2s 8h. I held 56h. He had Ah Jh (or so he said). I would have gotten stacked, said NH, and reloaded.

My best

Foxwoods 1/2 NL.

I'm on the button with K7o. Everyone limps, literally, except one guy. Flop comes KK5. Aggressive guy a couple seats to my right bets. I raise about 3x his. He bets enough to put me all in, and I fold. He later shows KJ.

About half an hour later he's in the midst of berating a fish and says "Don't you know if I put in the second raise I *always* have it?"

I grinned.
