The R.Kelly bit makes me wonder how long from conception of the ideas to production it actually takes them to churn out an episode.

It can't be long at all. Remember when Stan was trying to say that Scientology didn't make sense, and this was the response?

Scientist: Oh, hey, the Broncos are what, 6-2?
Stan: 7-2.

They're able to make these episodes VERY quickly.

That's what has always been great about SP. They can turn around a show in a week. They've finished shows on Monday and had them broadcast on Wednesday. Meanwhile, it takes well over a year for a Simpsons episode to air.

Yeah, SP is one of the quickest animated shows to produce. They usually knock out an episode in 7 days or less from script to final cut, sometimes delivering it to Comedy Central the morning of the air date. That's why on-screen guides never have a synopsis until the day of.

It's great that they can have very current issues on but it also has some drawbacks. If you've ever listened to Trey or Matt's commentaries or interviews with them, you'll see that they're super procrastinators. They had a quote about being in college, "We weren't the guys who did the paper the night before, we did it, like, at 4am the day it was due." While I am a huge fun of theirs and of South Park, the fact that they wait til sometimes 24 hours before a show is set to air to finish the ending has made for a somewhat disappointing season. Last night's episode was good, but the ending was awful, ditto for the week before "Ginger Kids." It seems like they may be getting a bit too lazy with the way they're ending newer shows. However, the procastination has produced some fantastic episodes, almost by mistake(If you've ever seen the episode Jewbilee, you know what I'm talking about).
Sorry to get off topic, I'm a big Parker/Stone fan, I think their comedy is top notch. But if casual viewers see an ending and are like "What the hell?"...now you know why.

Agreed. But I will happily put up with 10 crap shows for 1 fantastic show like last night's.

I hate everyone who uses a spade in their topics. I didn't bother to read the thread.

I thought last night's episode was decidedly mediocre until the ending, which was great. It reminded me a lot of the episode when Butters went missing that featured OJ, the Ramsey parents, Gary Condit, etc. At the end Butters' parents say stuff like, "Liar! You're a liar! You know something you're not telling us you slimy scumbag liar! " and "LIAR! MURDERER! CONFESS, LIAR, CONFESS!"

Parker and Stone confronting the subjects of their criticism so directly is much better - and funnier - than the closet gag, which got old after a couple minutes and was only briefly refreshed by Travolta.

The closet gag was got a little stale but I found the ending "I'll sue you" cliche to be much more dry and played. *Yawn* Been there, seen that.
