Re: Chicago vs Green Bay
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Bears were only favored by 7. Hopefully many of you got in on that one. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] This is only the 2nd sports bet I've made all year. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I realize 7 is a large spread. I still think it was a very good bet. Unfortunately, we can't have the teams line up for 50-100 trials to see if it was indeed a profitable wager. As it is, I'll take the push and move on. Thank you for your cordiality. |

Re: Chicago vs Green Bay
betting either team +/- 7 was a terrible bet. The Bears had a better line earlier in the week, and the Packers had a better line before game time. If you liked the Bears at -7, why not bet them in a teaser? The moneyline was around +280/-360 at that time - and an even money teaser has a break even point of around -250 (the low total had much to do with this discrepancy). The "1" is not worth nearly that much.
Bottom line is - this was the perfect result for those that were aware of the situation and put money on the Bears at -6.5 or better and the Packers at +7.5. Anyone who bet +/- 7 is a sucker, and will lose in the long run. |

Re: Chicago vs Green Bay
Thanks for the advice. I should have indeed looked for a 6.5. I still think it would have been a profitable bet at 7, but it would have been much better at -6.5. I wouldn't have taken the +7.5, despite the fact that in this case it was the winner.
Next time I think I see a profitable bet, I'll keep my mouth shut. |

Re: Chicago vs Green Bay
It was a nice Christmas gift to the Bears from Favre and Longwell.
