Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
[ QUOTE ]
When I am just playing poker in general I estimate that I have around a 1-2% advantage much of the time. Perhaps a little bit more. so I adjust the amount that I have at risk accordingly. [/ QUOTE ] Over how long? Your lifetime? An infinite lifetime? Since your risk of ruin would decrease by a factor of 4 by doubling your bankroll I cannot see why you would not jump at this bet. After all before you started playing poker you had no poker bankroll at all. It stands to reason I answered yes to this poll. |

teddyfbi plays full-time for income and obviously is in the 'yes' camp. otherwise though, I do think your observation has some validity. [/ QUOTE ] Yep. Easiest decision i could ever make. Another post commented: well, what happens when you win, do you do it again? It brings up an interesting point, because of course the expected value of taking this proposition to infinity is that you'll eventually go broke (and most likely in the first 10 such 'double up' scenarios). So the scenario is a little flawed. But as a one-time shot, i'd put my entire online bankroll on AA all-in preflop in a heartbeat. Agreed I wouldn't do it for 51/49% shot. Probably not even for a 60/40% shot...when you start getting into the 75% and up range, I think it's a go. of course you can point out the hypocrisy in my position: that I should be willing to push with only a 51% edge...b/c the expected value of that bet to infinity is of course infinite (assuming no risk of ruin, which is an absurd assumption)...but i'd need a little more security before agreeing to that. 75/25 and i'm in. |

Bankroll, yes. Life savings, no.

Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
given your current bankroll, how easy would it be to double up now (without this scenerio) compared to how tough it would be to get back to your current bankroll amount if you were forced to start again from scratch (considering you don't have sufficient funds elsewhere to start up again at a decent limit).

Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
I'm in the yes camp but it's just like any other answer to a poker question, it depends. To have this scenario occur I'd have to have my entire bankroll in play and have my opponent move all in preflop while I held AA. If this scenario ever came up, my chips would fly into the pot.
The problem is, I can't think of a reason why I would put my entire bankroll (as small as it may be) into play at once. That's only asking for trouble. In the end, I answered 'yes' because that's what I'd do but my answer comes with an asterisk. |

Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
Here are your answers:
1 - True professionals (make their living playing poker, no other income) - NO 2 - GAMBLORS!!!! - YES 3 - Semi-pros (with a replenishable bankroll) - YES 4 - Semi-pros (who need the continued influx of money to live) - NO 5 - Recreational players (whose bankroll has grown too large for them to easily replace) - NO |

Re: Your ENTIRE bankroll on AA...do you do it?
Of course not. Only a fool would put his entire bankroll in one game.
