It is..except for those looking for a loophole, you know, "denial" isn't a river in Egypt & all that.
I have known quite a few alcoholics in my life and have never seen one return to "normal" drinking once a lines was crossed. Now there is a distinction between alocoholism and abusive or hard drinking. Not all abusive drinkers are alcoholic and only the individual can no for certain if his or her drinking is a problem or just a phase.
How bad does your life suck because of the consequences related to your drinking? is usually a pretty good barometer.

What, it can't be both like diabetes for example? Needs to be treated for life, never goes away, however, does get better. But without continuous treatment the condition returns and or worsens.
