I agree blackaces, that some pro's can use it to their advantage in a tournament. I didn't mean it should be a tournament rule for everybody, just for me. I bluff more in tourny's and don't want people catching on to how or why I bluff. In limit cash games though, I don't bluff very often at all, so when I do I use it for advertisement.

Never comment negatively (and incredulity is negative) about an opponent's play.

It's just bad business.

No offense Buster, but Rounders quotes are reserved for Pooh-Bahs and up, who have been around long enough to know that you must apologize before typing one out, as in:

"Sorry for yet another Rounders quote, but..."

Anyone else think it's about time for another decent poker movie, so we call all stop quoting Rounders?

At my local tourneys I have a reputation as being ultra-tight (of course these guys play any A, and almost any suited cards). When asked outright, I generally indicate that I had the feared hand. I sometimes show the nuts, but never a bluff. In fact, my just calling a big bet scares many of the other players, and I often use this to my advantage when I miss. I generally indicate that they made a good fold, even working up a little irritation as I stack the chips from my AK that never amounted to anything but the nut nothing.

And then, still feeling somewhat stunned about what I thought I had just seen, I asked "Did you just muck a straight?"

Sounds like you asked for it. Next time don't ask such a question, you know what she mucked.

The other night, an older cranky gentleman who folded the flop asked what I had when no one called my river bet. I said, "it's quite easy to find out", he said, "you did have the flush then?", I said, "no, the easy part is giving me $80 and I'll tell you." He was livid, steaming and overcalling for hours after that, it was beautiful.

Peace,
Joe Tall

--I don't play live poker, just internet--
Is it really this easy to put sombody on tilt? I've read so many posts about how people will tilt when you: say something to them, check-raise them, look at them...
I just can't believe it's this easy.
--I've played in a casino once and play a home game every other week. I've never seen people in my home game tilt because of saying something like this. Does it happen often in a cardroom though?

The old-time regulars down at Foxwoods seem perpetually on a fence between tilt and normalcy. Anyone that looks remotely young is considered their enemy and can't know how to play this game as they have been playing it since, "you were in diapers, kid". Eventhough I'm 31 and have been playing poker for 20 plus years, but I look young, and that's enough.

Their old surroundings of a the quiet poker room are gone. Poker has exploded and they are unfamilar with what used to be their own home. This seems to keep them all on edge and I'm routinely amazed on how easily they slip into tilt.

Peace,
Joe Tall
