I think I have tried most of these chips discussed here...

First of all, it is a misconception that chips are supposed to be 11.5 grams. The ones used in casino's are lighter. Its been a while now since I bought mine, but if I remember correctly they are more like 8.5-9 grams.

It all comes down to how much you are willing to pay. The best value for money deal is probably for dice chips on E-Bay. You can get a whole bunch for a few pennies, and that includes the briefcase. These chips are decent, but they don't in any way handle or stack like the real thing.

The Nevada Jack chips are a step up, but honestly... Nothing beats the chips from www.pokerchips.com

They are the real deal! They make chips for casino's, and they sell the exact same onces to individuals. We don't get to chose from the same variety of edge spots etc, but they look awesome. And, they handle like casino chips because they ARE the same ones... pokerchips.com also made the chips for the movie Rounders, along with some other ones.

I ordered mine about 6 months ago, and immedeately all the people in my homegame wanted to throw theirs out the window. They are simply cool! But you have to pay a little more than the substitues... That said, they will last you forever, and I promise you won't regret it once they arrive. Customer service is excellent, and they even sent me a few extra chips than what I asked for. Their cases are very expensive though, so what I did was just buy chip-racks instead. Works nicely!

Again, its simply a matter of money. Pokerchips.com probably have the best quality chips, but you are looking at a cost of almost $1 per chip. The dice striped on Ebay are of inferior quality, but for $0.15 per chip, they are a much better value, IMO.

Agreed - I have several thousand chips that were custom made by pokerchips.com. But they are pricey at 95 cents per chip.

The Nevada Jacks "Casino" chips are a high quality composit chip for less than 30 cents each.

Sorry for getting back so late. I have been out of town on business in a place where internet obviously does not exist yet...

Anyway, the six chips that the site sent to me are the 6 chips shown on that site. 3 are low end chips similar to the 9g and 11.5g sold on ebay. The other 3 are higher end even though they are 8g and 8.5g chips. I have a chip I kept from the Grand in Tunica to compare and the weight of the last 3 chips is similar, but they vary one way or the other such as chip thickness and such, but are very close.

Before this weekend, I had never seriously looked on ebay for chips, but I ended up buying a 1000 chip set with a case on Monday morning that is still in transit. I'll let you know how they look and feel once I get them. I bought a set of the 11.5g "Deluxe Diamond" chips for my tourneys.

Ebay suggestions:
I started watching a few sets bid last Friday and noticed right away wild price swings from one bid to the other for the exact same set. If you're tight like me and plan to make a competition to get the best deal out of it, research the item you're wanting to bid on before you start getting serious. I was able to get my set for $77.00 (1000 chips and aluminum case)+ $32.20 shipping/handling/insurance for the "Deluxe Diamond" set of 11.5g chips. Weekends seem to be the worst time to bid on these items. The price for this same set occasionally hit over $150.00, so know what you're bidding on. If you select the "Advanced Search" function on Ebay, you can review the "Completed Items" to see what ranges the item has sold for over the past few weeks. You'll quickly notice the wild price swings as well. My $77.00 for the 1000 chip set, was the lowest price that set had sold up until that point in the past 3 weeks, so I believe I got a deal. Another set that did not have the aluminum case but came with 10 acrylic chip trays went for a "lowest bid" of $71.00 up until that point. I was watching both for the best deal. Once a bid I was watching passed the point of what I was willing to pay, I quit watching and started looking for the next auction on one of these items. The rush of bidding at the last second of an auction and the dejection of being out bid on some was an up and down excitment that I enjoyed. Again it was my first attempt to purchase something on ebay. I guess I probably submitted 30 bids on items, all at the last few seconds of an auction, and finally hit one on Monday morning before I left for work. I thought the auctions in the middle of the night would have the less bidders, but sometime around 2 am Saturday morning, I quickly noticed that some of the bids were going for +$120.00, so that theory went right out of the window.

Also, know the shipping charges for the item you are purchasing. For the 1000 chip sets, 5-Star Deals had the lowest shipping charge of $19.95 amongst the different suppliers. One other was $24.95, but several were higher up to about $39.95, which needs to be taken into consideration when bidding. At $19.95, you are able to bid $20.00 higher on the 5-Star chips over that of the other suppliers that charged $39.95 for the same item, plus 5-Star Deals will allow you to select the specific colors and number of each color, where most others do not.

I hoped this helped and I'll let you know what I think of my chips when they arrive.
