Default Re: How many games do you play at once?

the mind is capable of far more than we usually give it credit for.
i think i could do the 10-15 games at once thing if i had the super-computer minority-report style.

but, i don't.
on my 17" monitor on my laptop i can play 6 tables at once but it's kind of hectic because of all the overlap and i don't do it very often.
put 3 tables in 2 columns with a little space showing on each.

i can fairly easily play 4 without too much difficulty, and a couple of those may be short-handed if i have found a special-fishyness situation.
i might also add a $1 or $3 NL tourney in there as a 5th table where i don't have to think so much because i'm pretty much playing group 1-2 hands only except the blinds.

sometimes i'll play a 10+1 SNG on party which will only lend to playing 2 other ring-games (maybe 1 of them short-handed) because the 10+1 requires a bit more concentration and will get down to 6 players or less fairly quickly.

i admit that the multiple-limit scene isn't quite so exciting. but i am not averse to mixing in some SNG's....or the occasional multi...depending on my mood.

i DO enjoy it btw...especially when i am winning.
some people's brains are just wired to get enjoyment out of this type of thing.....most of my friends would rather kill themselves before playing poker on auto-pilot for hours on end.
but i don't understand how people can sit in a casino and play a slot-machine for hours on end (although some might argue that poker-online is very similar....only with +ev).
and some people don't understand how i can sit and enjoy a baseball doubleheader on tv (live or on tv) when it takes 5-6 hours to finish.
lets face it....people are different.
i cant and dont play some of those point-of-view type of shoot-the-enemy type of video-games on sony-playstation simply because they bore me.

i enjoy poker....and multiple-table online-poker....and i enjoy making roughly the same amount of money as i do at my 'regular' job.
and i can get this WITHOUT a 30+ minute commute each way.....i can watch the basketball game on TV or some Clint Eastwood movie re-run.....not have to deal with condescending/rude bosses...etc. allthewhile playing a game i enjoy.
what's not to love??

i still get those spam e-mails where they say something long the lines of 'wouldnt you love to make extra money just sitting at home on your computer (or stuffing envelopes, or whatever)??' and i always thing 'ummmm, already do!!'

George Koltanowski was able to play 10-20 blind-fold games of chess simultaneously....and he could do this well past 70-80 years of age (he passed away a couple years ago at 90 or so i believe).
there have been other chess grandmasters who have been able to simultaneously play multiple games against top competition (blindfolded or not).

i have some other stuff about some guys playing 4 blind-fold chess games and 2 bridge games at the same time....or 90 blindfold games of checkers/draughts simultaneously.

i know this is only peripherally related but i someone may be as interested in that ridiculous trivia as i am.

Well, I've never tried playing fifteen tables, but considering I'll read forums while playing six or seven, where some of the tables are partially overlapping, and still browse the internet sometimes. I believe fifteen would be close to doable, if none of the tables overlapped.

Actually my play isn't robotic. I do take in quite a few factors. The outcome of certain hands with some players and how they played it, does affect my future play against them.

And there's so much I based my decisions with, that it would take me forever to program a bot to do it, even if I knew how.

it varies between 1-2 and 3-6 for most of them. Sometimes I'll play one of the tables as high as 20-40.

I believe I am able to play a solid game on that many tables because of the practice I've had playing online. I started back when Planet Poker was the only game in town.

But I agree it is certainly not an optimal game at each table. I'll sometimes muck a hand I believe is slightly profitable if there's too much going on at the other tables.

I have fun playing 6 tables at once but playing 9+ feels too much like work. If I'm playing less than 5 tables then I get bored and watch a movie or tv.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a joke. 15 tables? Most sites let you play 3 tables at a time, some only 1. Where all are you playing? Party, Empire, Intertops, Paradise, Stars...ok it's possible, but that is alot of clutter. It is insane trying to find a new table when one dries up just playing 4 or 5 tables which is my norm. 15 is Hard to believe. But then if you do it and are successful...congrads. I'm jealous. I can't comfortably play 6 tables for more than an hour. 4 tables...maybe 5 I can play 4 hours before burn out which makes a nice 8 hours a day with an hour or two break. Also, I only play just short of full screen (Which leaves enough room to offset the tiles so no wrong buttons are hit). I tried increasing the resolution so 4 can fit on the screen, but squinting at all those tiny images is horrible on the eyes.

I've changed all the cards so that the number and suit take up the full card. Has anyone else made useful modifications to make viewing easier? Please describe.

i do not believe that playing 15 is possible without signifigant slowdown/timeouts/misplays. i could see 10 as being an upper limit for just about anyone while actually being able to slow all of the games down.
