Re: AC addict
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] AC didn't feel unsafe in the least, it just felt depressing. [/ QUOTE ] Good point. Conflating poverty with danger is another common mistake. [/ QUOTE ] It has been proven that poverty, above all other factors, is most likely to correlate with violence. [/ QUOTE ] Sweet. Now go look up what correlation means. [/ QUOTE ] Since this is what the OP is about, you are more likely to be robbed/mugged/murdered in poor areas than you are in rich areas. Its a fact, friend. [/ QUOTE ] More likely. Correlation. Have you been to AC? I'm more likely to be robbed/mugged/murdered within a 15 block radius of my apartment than Atlantic City, and I live on the most expensive real estate in North America. |

How's the pink chip game going at Trop? Still strong on the weekends? [/ QUOTE ] Never actually played at the Trop but I've walked by recently and it looked very busy both times. I did play 1/2 NL while waiting for a bus home at Caesars with bdk3clash sleeping at the next table over. That was fun. |

Re: AC addict
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Are you out of your mind? AC=not safe place. Inside the casinos=safe. You walk the streets. You let me know how that works out for you. [/ QUOTE ] I've walked around AC plenty of times. I'm also a nonthreatening, short, Asian male typically carrying several thousand dollars in my pockets when I do so and I've never felt like I was in danger. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I think it's more likely that you and others tend to exaggerate urban danger. [/ QUOTE ] maybe they think you know karate |

Re: AC addict
first, AC is not that bad, but it is not great. 2nd the board walk tourst stuff shopping is not what people meant, i hope. the bad areas are the resdentail/non toursit areas and [censored]. i have driven through all those shitty area's and they were not that bad, but walking thorugh them alone at night would def be stupid.
finally, a)most of us are middle class yuppy pussys, so we think some places are more dangerous than they really are. but nevertheless there is no reason to walk around a shady or even semi shady area simply for the [censored] of it. why increase the chance that you will get got? dave |

Re: AC addict
The snack bar above the poker room at the Taj was ok. The noodle bar was kind of cool. Seems like you really have to bug for comps. One day they seemingly "lost" my hours and couldnt or wouldnt do anything about it. Daily tournaments were nice but seemed like a lot of vig $50+$15. Borgata was much cleaner, a little darker. I didnt play there too long. I felt like the $6-$12 was too tight and the $5-$10 at Taj was looser. I didnt have any of the notorious "young guns" playing at the borgata- was all dinosaurs. But I felt like it was a poker player's heaven- compared to our little scene in Detroit. If you like to play with arabs, come to Greektown or Motor City. Many of them play pretty well, but they are super aggressive, on the average.
I wish I had called ahead for the Taj room rate, instead of some of the dumps along Pleasantville I stayed at. Dont even think of staying at the Red Carpet. The price is right, that's about it. -J |

Good GRIEF
Hell I didn't mean to start this whole discussion of Atlantic City crime rate.
I'd add a more thought out response to the discussion, but this thread seems to have taken on a direction much different that the one the OP apparently desired. Sorry about the hijack, Justin. It wasn't intentional. |

For the next time you go...
[ QUOTE ]
just for those of you who want a good laugh: here are the reader reviews for Red Carpet Inn: web page enjoy! [/ QUOTE ] LOL seems like a classy joint. Last weekend I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on US-40 (not the one on the boardwalk but the one down in the same general area as your beloved Red Carpet Inn). It was a good place and not too expensive at $99 a night. The 17% NJ room tax is obscene, though. |
