Are you talking about that little 2-3 second sound right before "da-na, na, na NA NA, da-na, na, na NA NA....."? Or the actual "da-na, na, na NA NA"?

Anyway, Black Dog is a good one as well.

"reeow, reeow, reeow, reeow, ducka, ducka, ducka, ducka, HEY HEY MAMA SAID THE WAY YOU MOVE, GONNA MAKE YOU SWEAT, GONNA MAKE YOU GROOVE-OOVE"

I'm talking about AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-AH!!

Again, tho, not really an intro. It's a "hook" - a catchy motif repeated throughout the song. A lot of "intros" do seem to fall into this category tho. Even the "Money For Nothing" intro is really just the verse guitar played without accompaniment.

I have "The Immigrant Song" on 45, it's one of my more prized records. The flip side is "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" When I was a teenager I used to store it in a sleeve for Phil Collins, "Against All Odds", assuring that none of my "friends" would ever steal it.

Does that count? It's the same as the verse riff.

since the op was about intros, and not opening riffs, I think the gongs count. best damned opening for an album.

I hope that's a joke, and really don't want to know if it isn't.

the marty mcfly part was a joke, but the opening riff from chuck berry's version kicks ass

*Phew*

Good point about the gongs. I thought you were referring to the guitar riff that starts the song Back In Black.

Everyone who has thusfar mentioned Money for Nothing is actually talking about the part before the guitar... I'm fairly certain of this. The usual radio-edited version starts slightly before the guitar comes in but everyone is talking about the whole "I want my...." "I want my.... MTV..." sung by sting and accompanied by drums and some kind of synth or whatever.

I like the idea of storing Zep albums in Phil Collins sleeves. That is funny sh*t.

I don't make Rocket Science scratch, and on top of that I'm quite stingy, so buying the album would set me back about 15-19 BB's. Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas wishlist though. Thanks.

I was referring to the combination of the guitar part before the drums come in and the "I want my MTV..." part. The guitar part is bad ass, as simple as it is.

AC/DC has a lot. I'd say Hells Bells qualifies as well. Although you get into that riff/intro argument again.
