Re: The Holy Crap Trade
[ QUOTE ]
Shooting 33% from three is the equivalent to shooting 50% from two, so they can at least be effective three point shooters. Upper thirties makes you one of the best. [/ QUOTE ] Wrong and wrong. Two point shots are much more likely to draw fouls. The myth that 3-pointers result in more offensive rebounds is false. The best 3 point shooters are usually in the 40+ range. |

[ QUOTE ]
I would not be surprised to see Williams shoot almost 40% from three this year. See the jump in Jones's 3 pt% last year. [/ QUOTE ] I'll bet literally any amount of money I can come up with that neither Walker nor Williams finish above 40.0% from 3pt this year. |

[/ QUOTE ] Wrong and wrong. Two point shots are much more likely to draw fouls. The myth that 3-pointers result in more offensive rebounds is false. The best 3 point shooters are usually in the 40+ range. [/ QUOTE ] Ok, true, two point shots are more likely to result in fouls, and unless you're Shaq, then you're going to shoot better than 50% from the line. I didn't include that. So shooting 33% isn't the same as shooting 50% from two in terms of effectiveness. But most players don't shoot 50% from two. Teams don't shoot 50% from the field. These lines result in the same amount of points: 10-30 (all three pointers) = 30 pts 11-25 (44%, all twos), 8-10 (FT) = 30 pts So I think I can at least say that whether or not 33% three point shooting is "effective" depends on your alternatives when taking those shots. I do agree, it isn't great though. We were talking about career three point percentages though, not single season. Upper thirties definitely makes you one of the best. |
