Re: Anyone check the FIFA rankings lately?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The real question is how are Mexico and the US ahead of France, England, Spain, and Portugal. Seriously, are we (or Mexico) a favorite against any of those teams at a neutral site? Can't see it. [/ QUOTE ] France, England, and Spain are all in serious danger of missing the World Cup. The US is not. [/ QUOTE ] That's because the US has an incredibly easy qualifying group. Mexico US | | | | | | | | | | | | \/ everyone else in CONCACAF The US just isn't good enough to consistently beat the top teams. Our "best" player (Donovan) is a pussy away from home. We have some skilled support/attacking players (Beasley, Eddie Johnson, etc), but no top-flight goal scorer (like Henry, Ronaldinho, etc). The goalkeeping has been world-class for years and is the biggest reason why the US continues to be successful. If the US played 10 matches on a neutral site vs England, they'd do no better than 2-3-5 (2 wins, 3 ties, 5 losses). |

Really though, the only world ranking that means anything is who wins the world cup every four years [/ QUOTE ] That's right. And in the only competition that means anything, Germany was the only European team to advance further than the US, and that was pure luck as Germany was dominated by us in that game. So suck it Euros, we don't even care and we still own you. |

I just wish they would hold it somewhere in our hemisphere- getting up in the middle of the night to watch the games in Korea/Japan was a PITA. Germany will be even worse, since they will be playing during work hours. Hard to not find out what happens when all you do is surf the Internet all day at work... |
