the bonuses decrease the rake, but there is still much money that leaves the table this way.

[quoteI think this proves two things.

1. The rake is pretty hard to overcome.

2. There are far more losing poker players in the world than most people can imagine.

good post. unfortunately both points are undoubtedly true.

No doubts, BUT, the bonus and rakeback does help the online player overcome the rake and post a profit.

By bonus whoring a small stakes player can more or less get rid of the rake for the first 20k hands each month or so. Without the black hole it's alot easier to make a modest profit.

To further that point, I've been bonus whoring since February, mostly at $1/2, but a little at $2/4 as well (and one costly foray into $3/6 - but I'm not talking about that). My PokerTracker results show that I've paid just about $1,900 in rake in about 36,000 hands at Party/skins, UB (with rakeback), Paradise and Crytpos. I keep a separate spreadsheet, which shows that I've earned just over $4,000 in bonuses/rakeback during that time. At the same time, I'm just ahead of break even from a true poker winnings standpoint (but getting better since reading SSHE a second time), which makes bonuses and rakeback that much more important to me.
