And to the guy who said "No" after my comment that Danny was the best around, who do have thats better??? I'm talking about tournaments.

IMO, here are few well known names:

Phil Ivey
Doyle Brunson
Jonny Chan
Dan Harrington
Stu Ungar

I don't think either Chan or Doyle are current better than DN right now. Do they even play many tournaments? And I'd hardly say Stuey is the best around.

Phil Ivey(best game is stud but one of the best nl also), Layne Flack, Howard Lederer(maybe for just holdem), Scotty N.(i put scotty for his all aorund tournament capabilities) but in no limit while he is successful and certainly capable of taking any tournament down. He does sometimes make mistakes at final tables that you wouldn't expect from a great player.(maybe its the alcohol) But might be one of the best at all around tournaments. Omaha hi-low might be his best event. Eric Seidel for holdem and few others. Eric Lindgen for holdem.

No, Stuey *is* not the best around. You have to be alive to have that distinction.

But, he *was* probably the best card player who ever lived, and the guy I'd draft #1 to play in a tournament if my life depended on him winning it. You can keep Gus Hansen.

I thought it was interesting that they said that he played weak and scared and could be bullied in cash games when his drug habit was in full swing.

I think this quote is kind of telling as to his abilities:

"Was he the best poker player I've played against? No, not in my top 10, but in No Limit Hold'em, tournament style, he was undoubtedly the best that ever lived. No one will ever be able to argue with his record."

I was implying that he is dead. Therefore he is not the best around.

Not anymore
No
DEFINITLY not anymore, and not relevant to "Best around", as he is no longer around.
