Here because it brings up an interesting move that can be done live. There because it brings up an interesting turn decision. Why do you often have to be such a prick? What is your point here? I respect your opinion about hands/strategy, but your posts are often smug and arrogant. Why?

[/ QUOTE ]

Note: The turn decision is not interesting--I think standard and boring would be more appropriate descriptions. Nonetheless, I politely responded with the advice to "check behind" when you first posted this hand in the SS forum.

However, I didn't see any redeeming reason for you to post this trivial hand yet again in this forum--nor did I see I need for you to post a personal attack against me--unless you just want a bigger dose of "Look at me!, look at me!"

just because it is trivial to you, doesn't mean it will be to others

The hand was first posted here. I initially posted it because of the dark bet (in case it wasn't obvious from the title of the thread). I posted it in SS after i saw that some felt it was an easy turn bet (hence the title "turn".)

I thought about that, but you have a history, IMHO, of making jerk-ish posts like this, and I felt it was time you got called out on it.

I will VERY rarely dark bet. When I do, it is either to convey great strength (to a bad player), or weakness (to a strong player).

It seems the times I've seen folks use it, it is with a vulnerable hand that they want others to see as a lock. THis is foolish. If your good, but not great hand holds up, the player who missed folds. If your hand is second best, or the river kills you, you pay an extra bet. No good.

I dark bet the flop all the time, especially out of position against good players headsup when I put in the last aggression preflop. They *know* I'm going to bet anyways, might as well speed things up.

Checking the turn is fine here a lot of the time.

I agree. Glad someone said it. Unless you really think he might fold, you're losing money putting money in on this draw on this street HU.

Far from a big mistake not to bet this turn.

I'm not very bright, so humor me. How is it not better to see your cards first? When given the choice of having info or not, I usually assume that having info is more desirable.

[/ QUOTE ]

That information is the whole reason for the straddle. For 2BBs I get position on every street, in a game where my opponents are providing more useful information than my cards.

The question of whether I was making it back or not was quickly eliminated when both of my opponents decided that it was a good idea and turned it into a 3-handed 5-5-10 game.

Dark bets work even better against weak players in some situations. Agaisnt good players, it speeds things up. Against weak players, it often gets folds that it shouldn't.
