Being risk averse is far better than jumping into games he is not ready for and having that hard earned roll take a hit.
Bankroll should not determine what games you are playing in, it is just a minimum requirement. Your comfort in a game and ability to beat it are what count. As you have seen from many of the posts here there are plenty of solid players moving slowly in games they are comfortable in. Having a experienced/comfort based plan may be the way to go for him. First thing he should do is get PokerTracker since it is easier to be comfortable with your play when you get the great feedback that PT can provide. Here's a link to my 20K Quest but perhaps he would be more comfortable with 30 or 40K. |

Putting another 50k hands in at 1/2 isn't going to give him any more information on whether he can handle 2/4. If he's taken a shot or two at 2/4, and not liked it, that I could understand. |
