He open-limped pf on the button. It wouldn't shock me if he turned over 2 UNO cards. [/ QUOTE ] Did he beat you with a pocket pair of "Reverse's"? |

But when dealing with open-limping from the button, we are dealing with a special kind of retardation. [/ QUOTE ] I can honestly say I've never open-limped from the button, but HEPFAP says there is a time to do it. (p. 197) |

IMO, the rank of river plans goes: check/fold > check/call > bet/fold > bet/call. The parlay of a) him having a worse hand and b) him calling with that hand is such that the river bet is -EV, IMO. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] chance player is called by a worse hand < chance opp folds a better hand < chance player is called by a better hand -SmileyEH [/ QUOTE ] Both of these posts get right to the heart of the matter. |

I think mixing it up is the best way to go, of course.
I've tinkered around with this some and have seen some interesting stuff. First, you sometimes get paid off with your better hands because of your limp. I assume this is due to the "He would n't have limped on the Button with an Ace", line of thinking. This is especially true if they think you're a "good" player. Secondly, some good players are less likely to play back aggressively against you, and will often times just check/fold the flop. I think if you raise and they have enough hand to fight back they kind of zero in and concentrate. Also you might try it with your real whopper hands now and then, especially if either of the blinds is quick to raise if you limp. Then you can 3-bet immediately, or take another fancier/trapping line. I'm not advocating becoming a total button-limper, these are just some thoughts based on my limited experimentation. |
