Default Re: Why do people LOVE poker?

[ QUOTE ]

Squander a large percentage of your "thinking time" playing poker as opposed to more intellectually and socially productive human activities and you have squandered your life.

Read a book on history, or write a song or something instead.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is there something that precludes you from doing all the above? There are 16 hours in a day to do things (or more if you're masochistic/ambitious). There is nothing to stop a winning poker pro from spending 9 hours a day playing cards, then going home to read his philosophy book, writing a song, volunteering for a local non-profit.

I do agree with you on one thing -- people that only play poker and nothing else are missing out, just as people than only do their job (whatever it may be) and nothing else are missing out.

You missed your turn. You wanted to stop at the point of diminishing returns and enjoy the view.

You define you.

[/ QUOTE ]

You are your mind.

Improve your mind and you improve yourself. Squander a large percentage of your "thinking time" playing poker as opposed to more intellectually and socially productive human activities and you have squandered your life.

Read a book on history, or write a song or something instead.

Playing poker for a living is a waste.

[/ QUOTE ]

Despite the fact it's clear you don't know what you are talking about, I will respond. What would you say about all the people who work only 25-30 hours per week at poker, as opposed to the 40-50 they may work at a "real" job which may or -- more likely -- may not contribute all that much to society? If the extra time that they have is put toward what you deem "useful," which scenario is better in your view? It's clear to me that this is the case for many of us loser, slacker, good for nothing poker pros on this site, so your opinion is not only insulting, but also misinformed and judgmental.
