Re: What sports records will stand the longest?
[ QUOTE ]
Nobody mentioned Byron Nelson. 19. 11. Insane even in a war year. Still too many good players to win 11 in a row. Much harder to break than DiMaggio's record. Tiger's current cuts made streak will last a while. When it ends that is. I am actually surprised DiMaggios 56 and Williams 406 have lasted as long as they have. [/ QUOTE ] Williams .406 is not a record, but that DOES remind me... Hugh Duffy's .438 single season average will never be approached. |

Re: What sports records will stand the longest?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] DiMaggio's 56 game hit-streak..Never will that one be touched. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed, this one will *NEVER* get touched, especially with the pressure of today's media. Whenever someone even gets to 30-35 game hitting streak, it gets insane. No one will ever get to 56 in a row.... ..Cal Ripken's record is as pointless as Emmitt Smith's rushing 'record' - dude just showed up for work every day and did his job...I been doing that for years, no one ever gave me a car or a plaque. [/ QUOTE ] This demeans both of these players to an outlandish degree. I hope you realize how dumb you are for having made such a statement, but I doubt you will. |

Re: What sports records will stand the longest?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I got one. Most games by a franchise without running a kickoff back for a touchdown. [/ QUOTE ] How about most games by a franchise without having a pitcher throw a no-hitter? Mets. [/ QUOTE ] Didn't Seaver throw one for them? [/ QUOTE ] No. He was on the Reds at the time, and I don't mean Communists Sam. |

Re: What sports records will stand the longest?
Yeah, I've seen the picture of williams and duffy sitting under a .438 sign. But nobody really thinks .438 since williams was the last to hit .400. I am still surprised 400 hasn't been hit since. Doubtful .438 will be hit of course.

Re: What sports records will stand the longest?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] 2 Consecutive no-hitters thrown by Johnny VanderMeer in 1938 might be tied but not broken. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah but do you really consider that like a "real" record? It isn't exactly gonna make the almanac or anything. Its like Tatis (?) and his 2 grand slams in 1 inning. [/ QUOTE ] The two no hitters in a row is in most record books and almanacs. |

nobody thought of this one
babe ruth's 60 hr's in 1927 was more than any team hit in the entire league, no player will out hit (hr's) any team let alone every team in the entire league.
others that won't...dimaggio's hit streak, bonds hr record (no more steroids), wilt's women and ppg and rpg (even though he was a foot and a half taller than the avg player), i would mention gretzky but i would be talking out my ass being from the south and not really knowing hockey too well |

We Have a Winner
511 victories in a career? That's over 25 years with 20 victorys. Nobody will come close ever given the way the modern game is played.
Gretzky - Yep and Gamblor pointed out his records as well. In the defensive minded NHL of today I think his records are probably unassailable. 50 points a game for a season by Wilt? Nobody will come close. |

Re: What sports records will stand the longest?
[ QUOTE ]
Henderson's steals in a season record looks pretty untouchable as this year's league leader only had 53% of Rickey's 130 steals in 1982 [/ QUOTE ] Good point. Or how about Rickey's career steal record? I remember having a conversation this summer about how players in general don't seem to be stealing bases as much in the last several seasons. Unless this trend reverses itself, his record could be around for a long long while. |
