[ QUOTE ] I love staying in the boardwalk area...If Showboat opens a room then thats 5 different casinos to choose from [/ QUOTE ] Which other rooms besides Trop, Taj and Bally's are there on the Boardwalk. [/ QUOTE ] The Sands home of the insane dealer games. The Sands used to spread $5-$10-$15 Stud games that dealers from the Trop and Taj would play in. The Sands also hosted the original pot limit game that the Borgata now has. Ok, enough nostalgia |

50 seems like too many tables for a place like the Showboat.

I doubt they'll ever utilize that capacity since even the Borg never fills all its tables on weekdays. [/ QUOTE ] Really? I was just down today (well yesterday now) Monday 1/10. If there was an empty table I didn't see it. Besides, having to many tables is much better than frequently having too few. Turning away customers for the tournaments because you don't have enough seats is far worse than having too many seats. I just wonder if there's enough demand to fill three large poker rooms. Methinks one of them closes, or scales back drastically... probably the Taj as the showboat is making a huge investment with the house of blues thingy and won't want to walk away too quickly. |

Last I heard the upstairs plans were canceled, they are only going to expand into the sportsbet room. This was last month, from a dealer.

If the Showboat can get its act together (and that is a big if), the Taj could still do ok, since people might go where there are two adjacent rooms. If the lists are long at one place, they could walk next door.
The problem with unused capacity is that it makes management think they should put something else there. I think the rooms measure profitability in revenue/table/day. If the room always has empty tables, revenue per table will be down. Frankly, two years ago, I didn't think there would be enough poker players to support the Trop, Taj, and Borgata. Now, who knows? |
