I saw wilsaf said I could have just called and saw if I flopped anything, I'm guessing it would have been hard to get away from top pair on the flop, as he flopped a set of 10s also.

Yeah, and really that's not the point. You're getting a near coin-flip with substantial overlay *and* you were the one that pushed. With wilsaf's way, you only get to see 3 cards to hit your AK, and it's only a "coinflip" when you see all 5. And also, as you say, it's not like you win everytime you hit.

And that's not even getting into the times he has AQ (or AJ, KQ, etc) then pushes you off your hand when the flop is all undercards.

Last hand:

I've got 6100. Blinds are 750/1500. Big stack limps in MP. I have KTo on the button. I figure he's got either a small pair or suited connectors, so worst case I'm a coinflip with overlay if I push, so I do (9 spots til next money jump, and I only really care about the final table). BB pushes (uh oh), limper folds. BB has AK.

And just for kicks, board comes: Q Q 6 6 (whew, I got a tie!) K. Oops. Damn.
