Re: Vegas 5/10nl
[ QUOTE ]
if you're up against a bunch of low/mid suited connectors, you drop down to approx 35% fav. [/ QUOTE ] that is incorrect, and your thinking is highly counter-intuitive EV wise.....take the following example.... Holdem Hi: 1086008 enumerated boards cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV As Ah 502483 46.27 582508 53.64 1017 0.09 0.463 8c 7c 193832 17.85 891159 82.06 1017 0.09 0.179 6d 5d 193975 17.86 891016 82.05 1017 0.09 0.179 Js Ts 194701 17.93 890290 81.98 1017 0.09 0.180 and now remember, you are getting over 3 to 1 on your money.....would you take 3 to 1 on a coinflip?....buying in short at big games has always been a very VERY profitable strategy when done correctly.... |

Re: Vegas 5/10nl
surf,
WHAT?! This sounds like an excellent place to buy for 500 and take a shot. I would be much more afraid of getting zero action because everyone knows the little kid with 500 bucks has AA. -Fink |

You're only going to see AA or KK once every 200 hands, if you limit yourself to a small preflop range you could possibly get blinded out in a cashgame. As far as the %'s go, I stand corrected. |

Re: Vegas 5/10nl
[ QUOTE ]
the NL100 and NL200 games i've played in live are rediculously easier than any of theses. [/ QUOTE ] I will second that. Very true. Very true almost everywhere, including Vegas. Also...I see no problem with a big buy-in at the uncapped games. I know why Negreanu does it. It works. A big stack is something to contend with plus it gives you room to change up your game quite a bit. It think it's a good idea. Playing with a fort-o-chips also lets me isloate those weak-ass Strawberry Shortstacks who use the words "all-in" everytime they want to gamble. Picking off $200 -$400 pots two out of every three times is a real joy. I especially love the guys whose sunglasses cost more than their buy-in. Lovely. |

Re: Vegas 5/10nl
All this debate about short stack buy in has got me thinking.
I'm going to try this out today here in LA and post a little summary later. -surf |

Re: Vegas 5/10nl
The thing with 5/10 is that, despite the occasional exceptions, you won’t win with simple tight straightforward play. If you’ve been playing tight and then push your $500 stack after a raise and a re-raise, nearly everyone will (correctly) put you on QQ+. You need to do more than wait for good hands and then value bet them against donks; unlike 1/2 and many 2/5’s.
