My STD (Hey I mean Standard Deviation!)has skyrocketed the last 2 days, from $110 to $177 an hour.
However today was my best day so far, I won 649.50 and am up $690 in this challenge. I have now played exactly 1400 hands, all $5-$10 and maybe half of them short handed. I got called names again today, hand history below. To find your current skill level would be relatively easy if you have logged all your hands in pokertracker, however current would never be comletely current but close enough. To plug your holes is not always as easy as being told how, but supplying 2+2 with hand-histories might be a good start. What level's and games do you currently play? [/ QUOTE ] Thanks. So say I gather my next (1000?,5000?,25000?) hands 2-4 and 3-6 LHE in pokertracker. Send them to whom and be billed how much?. And what info would they tell me?. Your mistakes are X, Y, Z, T ?. Move up to 5-10, move to 15-30?. I didn't know it was so easy to establish skill level from just looking at some hands. After all, a very good player can breakeven over 10,000 hands as a normal course of fluctuation. I guess the correct actions are more telling than the actual results?. Thanks in advance. |

[/ QUOTE ] It will only tell you how good you are with X% of certainty in your current level. 5-10 and 15-30 are two different games due to the different blind structures, then you have shorthanded or full games also, and even heads up. Talking to someone who is a better player than yourself surely will help, and there are quite a few nice plays you can make when the correct situation comes up. I do not want to divulge my plays here, but plenty of good plays displayed in the other forums. Do not however stay stuck in the belief that tight is always right, I don't care what Mason says! The point is that you move up when the analysis of better and more experienced posters is similar to yours. When those better and more experienced posters are mentioning things/notions/plays/ideas you don't understand or did not recognize as applicable, you are missing things. Its all about knowing what's going on, and then making the best decision based on your appreciation of the factors at work.
Bankroll considerations aside, whether to move up is not really a function of anything in PT, whether to move up is a function of how well you can identify 1) your mistakes, 2) your opponent's mistakes, and 3) whether you played the hand optimally, regardless of the outcome. Basically, if you are playing and don't know what to do, or don't know if your play was good or not when reflecting on it after the fact, you shouldn't be moving up. |

No, if you play on a reasonable tight table and there is lot's of callers before you low suited connectors can be raised (once in a while) to get the blinds (which might have similar hands to yours) out, and even though you will miss a lot of the time, that is relatively cheap, but when you hit you can make very nice money.
It also pays itself back and more later as some of the more 'experienced' players will think you are a moron or worse Poker is a lot about the perception other players have of you, and also the perception they think you have of them, nothing wrong with messing with their minds a little ToT |

Been 3 tabling the whole evening, been playing 1000+ hands and after an early $500 downswing I ended the day up to a $2107 total.
Have not been able to import my hands to PT today, so am not exactly sure how many hands I have played. Was playing the former world champion today, Tom McEvoy, have to look in my stats tomorrow to see how I did against him ToT |

Hey I like these hand histories and your explanations, and people's comments on them too. I'm getting some real value from this thread.
Oh, the laugh value of the 6 hitting the river and giving you trips was pretty good too! I can definitely see how, just like your other hand, you are setting up profitable situations by making people get very strong ideas about your play. I can imagine after the two hands you showed in detail here that you're going to get a lot of people who hit any piece of the flop on a Axx flop calling down your pair of aces right through the river, maybe even several at once. And maybe throwing a raise in if they have an ace too, no matter how weak their kicker. |
