Re: Stud is dead
[ QUOTE ]
btw, I remember when you took your job a few years back. It sounded like a good move at the time, but I gather you are seriously considering a move to full-time poker from this post? I know many folks who have done this, but I still hate it for a smart, educated 25-year-old with other options. Unless you have a huge gift (think Doyle Brunson, Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu) I don't think poker is enough. I love to play, but not as much as I love to write. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I'm not really sure what I'm going to do. I'm still at the same job I took 3 years ago, and I have accomplished a lot there and gotten great experience. But I haven't liked it much recently due to a number of factors. I make a lot more money playing poker than working and honestly the only reason I still do work a day job is to keep my mother happy (yes, I know, I don't live there anymore and can do what I want...but my parents paid for me to go to college and I care what they thing). Selfish, impulsive Jeff wants to move to Atlantic City and play 40-80 and 80-160 all day, every day. But I've been down that road (granted my game and roll sucked compared to what it is now, not to mention my emotional state) and it's lonely and can be very tough. I just know I need a change in my life. I think about starting my own business all the time but have no ideas...I really don't want to work for someone else the rest of my life. I make my living writing, but it's not the kind of writing I want to do and I have kind of grown to dislike something I used to love. I'm just kinda in a rut and don't know where I'll land. Poker, for me, is what I love to do. I just don't know if I want it to be ALL I do. Any suggestions appreciated, lol. That rant actually felt good . Jeff |

Re: Stud is dead
[ QUOTE ]
I think about starting my own business all the time [/ QUOTE ] I can't help with what the right idea might be, but based upon starting three different businesses myself, I would say that if you feel you have the stomach for it, then try to find a way to give it a shot. Starting a business can be the most rewarding thing you can ever do. On the other hand, it can make things like poker variance seem like a walk in the park. You need to have a high tolerance for uncertainty, amiquity, stress, etc. On top of that, managing employees can be like herding cats - sometimes really tough and frustrating. Beware - once you start a business, you may have a really tough time ever working for someone again. I would likely be unemployable/unmanageble after doing this three times. |

Re: Stud is dead
I clearing a pokerroom bonus, and for the past couple sessions the stud game has been by far the softest. Stud isn't that big ya, but it's soooo good shorthanded against donators.

Re: Stud is dead
I played the game every trip for many years. Always did well, great game structure. Played the game in late January, but I stopped in there two weeks ago from today, and the floorman told me the game died and they don't spread it anymore. I'll call in next winter to check, but the guy at the desk was rather adamant about no stud/8 games.
And to think they finally went no smoking, that place was a smoke pit. If you find a game there again, please post. |

Re: Stud is dead
Yep, low limit stud sucks at foxwoods nowadays. Poker is being controlled by what people see on TV. Any newb who shows up to play poker at a casino plays holdem (limit or NL). I believe Limit holdem is way superior to limit stud??? Its just new fish dont even try....becasue new people dont know how it plays. I have converted to holdem at foxwoods cause that is where the action is! I prefer stud but I prefer winning even more!!!! And there are a lot of fish playing holdem.

Re: Stud is dead
Have you thought of doing some consulting or something part time and playing poker part time? That seems like it would be the best of both worlds to me.
