Getting tired of being white (7/11 trip report)
I went to 7/11 today. I had a good little Larry David moment. At the door as I was leaving, there was a black guy, 25ish, who I stereotyped as 'empowerred' (I won't go any further with the stereotype or how I arrived at it). We brushed shoulders. This was the conversation:
Me: "Excuse me brother, my bad" (brother or 'bro' is standard speech for me, regardless of race) BG: "Don't patronize me. I ain't your brother." Me: "Are you serious? You gotta be kidding, right?" BG: "[insert some random pride-based speech]" Me: "Sorry, next time I see you, would you prefer Chief, Amigo, or [censored]?" -JOTR |
