Yeah if they do end up losing Damon/Manny there's a chance they finish at the bottom of the east next year.

[/ QUOTE ]

There is no chance they finish worse than the Devil Rays.

D-rays have some talent. Didn't they have one of the best second half records in the AL?

Also, Peter Gammon's has reported that Jim Thome is not happy in Philli and may be interested in returning to Cleveland.

[/ QUOTE ]

An aging first-basemen with injuries is probably not the answer.

Not to mention the fact that there will be several younger first basemen available through free agency or trade.

There's always a chance. The chance in this case is going to be very, very, small - regardless of what happens to Manny and Damon.

Keep in mind the Sox have a wee bit of money and are likely to replace Ramirez's contract with similar production.

Despite all that has happened Boston has the 3rd best odds at Pinnacle of winning the WS. I'm sure these are inflated somewhat but nevertheless they are in FAR better shape than most other teams.

I'd set the line at 8-1 or so. I could be off though. The D-Rays have some really good young talent and if they spent just a little money to fill in gigantic holes they could be a pretty good team next year.

It is a much different thing to say that the D-Rays will finish ahead of Boston rather than the Red Sox will finish in last place in the East.

They may have some talent on their team (Crawford, Cantu, Baez) but they lack the starting pitching and the power to muster 81 wins. And even losing Ramirez and Damon you can't believe the Red Sox will finish below .500.

These guys are far down on the list in terms of "talent" in the D-Rays organization.
