Beacuse I have the odds against a straight (including implied) and on the river I folded because he bets even if the flush came there (I might have had a flush in his eyes and a sort of combo straight + spade draw in his hand is not impossible, not very probable though).

lead the flop
you can't fold the river with those odds your play makes no sense... if you think you are beat, fold teh turn. if not, shove the turn. |

Definitely bet that flop... There are a multitude of made hands that will give you action and a bunch of draw hands that will give you action. You also need to defend against those drawing hands.
