Re: Pure Theory Question
Thats something i didnt consider.
I assumed he was playing two random cards, but the question doesnt state this. If your opponent is tight then you would only play strong starting hnads and there would be situations where you would pay significantly. My hand that i would pay the most for in this senario is JJ. |

Re: Pure Theory Question
I don't think it's a pair, but if it is it has to be 22, which I think is worth $50. There's no real value in finding out you're way ahead with a hand that beats a random hand.
I don't think it can be suited or connected. I sort of want a 2 in it since it often is way behind, but unfortunately that's never really way ahead. If it's a hand with a 2 in it, I'd say J2. I'm currently thinking Q7 is pretty good, though. It's either a hand that isn't worth a call otherwise, but has good chances to be way ahead, or a hand that you don't fold otherwise, but has good chances to be way behind. |

Re: Pure Theory Question
22. 22 is a favorite against nearly all other non-pair hands (AKs might be an exception). Since you plan to call with any hand that's the favorite, you really want to make sure you're not dominated by a higher pair.

You realize the opponent moved all-in in the dark, right?

Re: Pure Theory Question
How much are you willing to pay for 22? I think it's about $50.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually 22 is a dog to many suited connector type hands including hands like T7s. If you PokerStove it you'll see your equity heads up with 22 against a random holding is a mere 50.334%. |

Re: Pure Theory Question
Dang, learn something new every day. I always assumed that since 22 was a favorite over AKo, it must also be a favorite over the other non-pair hands. Not true!

Re: Pure Theory Question
The question states that your opponent raised you in the dark. You are only assuming its two random cards.
