Re: Moving from $25 to $50, is it worth it?
I suck at the search function, but someone should link Fimbulwinter's post on when you know you are ready to move up levels. The FAQ should be updated to include it.

fimbulwinter's post [/ QUOTE ] That link didn't work for me. Not too long ago, someone posted a fimbulwinter digest. I've reposted the link to it a couple of times. Once SSNL gets a new moderator, one of his/her/their first tasks should be to include the classic fimbulwinter posts in the FAQ. |

Here it is:
[ QUOTE ] What approximate win rate (after a significant # of hands of course) do you think should one should have at NL25 before making the move to NL50? [/ QUOTE ] FIMBULWINTER'S RESPONSE: first off you should never view it as a quantum leap kinda thing. just take little shots when you feel comfortable, have the money and are good enough. here's a hand waving yardstick: try 50NL when: - you're confident in your preflop game - you understand position - you have a good idea of their hand by the river - you have an ok feel when to continuation bet - you have 500 or more 100NL when: - you're confident playing draws - you can spot good semibluff opportunities - you can lay down AA/KK unimproved - you're attacking the blinds in easy steal situations - you have 1200+ 200NL when: - you're ok betting your stack on a draw - a PFR from you doesnt always mean AA-JJ and AQs+ - you're starting to play one hand while holding another - you have more than one mode - you have 3000 or more 400NL when: - you can ID profitable preflop steals - you know how to pick between b3b and c/r - position factors heavily into your play - you're good at manipulating pot size - you have 6000+ 1K NL when - your lines don't define your hand - you're good at playing and winning lots of small pots - your oop opponent must hold a strong hand to win a pot from you - you understand the real math of the game at least at a basal level 4_2_it will never be able to play at this level - you have 20000+ fim |

Don't feel bad: I have no idea what a "basal level" is and I've played 5/10 just fine.

If you enjoy having $2X more than having $X then you should move up once you're beating NL25. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Moving from $25 to $50, is it worth it?
You mentioned that you play on PokerRoom. I've played a decent amount on there and I've found their $50 NL to be among the hardest on the net. I actually found the $100NL to be easier, but I only played a couple thousand hands of it. My advice to you would be to take a shot at $100NL but only play one table and make sure you can can concentrate fully on it. Take plenty of player notes and try to get a feel for how everyone plays and practice your hand-reading skills. Try to err on the side of playing weak-tight until you start to get a feel for the differences at this level; this should help you from losing a lot of money.
